Fresh water sanitation-unexpected results
I was in the process of sanitizing the fresh water tank in our ACE 27.1, added the bleach and let it sit overnight. After draining the system, I put the hose into where you fill up the tank. Turned it on and started some other projects and forgot there was water still going into the tank. All of a sudden there was a big bang from inside the RV. The water tank expanded as more water was going into it than the small overflow tube could handle. The panels were blown off their connections and the center post of the cabinet was busted off where it meets the bottom of the cabinet. The metal support that goes around the middle of the tank separated where it is attached to one of the supports in the cabinet.
The center post would not easily slide back into position. I had to pull hard on the top rail of the cabinet and my DW pushed the post back into place. Used some 90 degree els to hold it in place.
Not a lot of work to fix, but just a lot of aggravation.

Wow! I've done the same but without the nasty results. In my case water was just pouring out of both the filler and vent (have done it to a few campers actually with just water coming out of both the filler & the vent).
Perhaps your vent line is kinked or otherwise restricted?

Nothing close to what you did, but when we got to our last months
campout (Elks camping group) when I hooked up to city water I
forgot to switch from fill tank (had added water at home) to city
fixtures and then I could not figure out why my water tank was
overflowing and dumping water on the ground. Fixed that!

hi, I'm new to this and rving. I would like to know how to sanitize my fresh water tank. I know I should use diluted bleach. But where do I add it to the tank? I have a Siesta 24 SR 2016 Thor rv.

Depends on which way to add water to your tank. If you add water
by putting the water hose into a fill hose then you would dump the
bleach down said fill hose.
If you have a hose bib where you screw the hose in place then you
need to buy a hand pump (Camping World or online) and you pump
the bleach into the tank then add water. Drive around the block then
drain the water tank, add fresh water again, drive around the block
again, then drain the tank. Add fresh water again. Taste it and flush
again if still has bleach taste.

Good Morning......I have a 2021 Thor Chateau 26B with a 45 Gal Fresh Water tank. How much bleach do I need for my size of tank?

There are lots of good articles if you Google it. Generally I have found that it is 2 oz per 16 gallons. Looks like 5 1/2 oz to me.

Look at sanitizing the fresh water system in your owners manual. It should give you the correct mix which is normally 1/4 cup of bleach per 15 gallons of water.

Do you have a whole house cartridge water filter that is first inline and you fill the tank with a city fill valve in the wet bay? If so, remove the filter cartridge, put bleach solution in filter housing, and fill tank. Run some water through each faucet until you smell the bleach and let sit several hours. Then do your draining and flushing.

Easy. Make sure you use fresh water hose. (White). Pour one cup of bleach into your hose and connect to the faucet. Put other end into your freshwater tank fill opening.
Turn on the water until full. (Water with pour out of vent hole). Let sit overnight.
I always run the water through the sink lines after 24 hours.
Dump this water and refill. Dump and refill.
I always refuse the same lines with the fresh water.

Same here. I do the dump and refil intil I do not sense the bleach in the water lines any longer. Usually takes 2-3 times of filling and dumping to do that. I run the water thru the lines to empty the fresh tank, not just dumping the fresh tank.
