Fresh water valve

So I have a 2019 fourwinds class c had bought in May , only been dry camping and once full hookups , well last week we went out for a few days full hookups hooked up to city water, next day dry camping tank was full and overflowing , I looked under the dining room seat and the tank was full, I found a valve inline , was I supposed to of shut it off? We weren’t told about it and it didn’t happen the last time we went out. If so why didn’t they put the valve in a place for easier access? Thanks

We had this issue in a previous class C. It didn’t happen all the time but often entreat we started closing the in-line valve. There is a check valve that should prevent this from occurring but sometimes dirt can cause it to fail. Sometimes running the pump will remove the dirt and the check valve will then function properly.
