Axis,Vegas fire hazard!
I was changing the oil in my Vegas today and noticed some weird little lights coming from under the hood. There are two air ducts, from just above the radiator to ,I believe, the heater. They are wire reinforced and sit right on top of a 100 amp breaker. The wires had worn through and contacted the bare breaker wire, and were glowing red! It melted about 6 inches of the duct. I must have bumped the duct and made contact. Sure glad it happened when I was right there.
Replaced the duct with heavier plastic flex tube and taped up the exposed circuit breaker. I suggest you tape it up as well.

I agree and many are right atop the positive cable on the battery. I always thought it was a hazard. I just purchased some new vent tubing it's a lot stronger and all plastic. I'm going to change it this weekend.

Hello Whirnot, I few weeks ago I contacted Thor and asked them what the hoses were for. I never liked that they laid across all the battery. While investigating how they were run I noticed they lay in the fender well in a/c condensation water. Thor told me that they were part of the recirculation a/c system on the chassis. I removed the desk and went in through the top. I made a bracket to hold both those hoses up to the bottom of the dash. I am still able to get to the oil refill and the hoses are off the battery making it easier to reach the battery cut off on top of the battery. That was a good thing that you were able to see how that could have gone wrong thank you for sharing. I am going to look at the wiring on that breaker and make the necessary improvements!

Interesting enough, Thor called my wife's phone and left a message to call them in reference to this post. We did, and left a message, never to hear back.
I called Customer service, and after waiting for quite a while, I chose the option of having them call me back asap.
That was over a week ago, guess they really don't care.

Air Ducts
Sadly, this is not a new issue and was discussed a few years ago in this forum with those trying to access the chassis battery through the top of the passenger dash area. Most owners used the opportunity to flex tie the ducts to the top portion of the dash so they were no longer near the top of the battery. It pays to look around with these rigs.

This was not the battery, there is a 100 amp breaker just above the radiator. That is what shorted.

I knew that. The problem is that Thor pushed these air vents that have the metal in them on hot connections. People in the past posts had both problems. Shoddy any way you look at it and whatever hot connection the hose vents were hitting.

I bought 2. I will install this weekend. No metal wire in them & very thick and ridged.

On our very early Axis those HVAC intake tubes sit on top of some A/C tubing well above the battery. I even had plenty of room to install the knife disconnect without having to move the tubes out of the way.

Great tip. I will go that route. My current factory tubes are shredded with metal exposed currently.

Whirnot- is it too late to post photos? Which hose did you buy? The product revjeffrey showed is only 28" fully extended. Is that enough buying two pieces? Thanks.

Actually after some thought, I might have used 2 1/2" . It is a temporary repair until after our trip, and it fit inside the existing hose. That way I just taped each end in. It was some hose I had around.

So, this encouraged me to finally take my computer table off of my dash and saw through the piece of wood, which allows access to the battery compartment. (Sidenote: we are well and truly screwed if we hit something head-on, aren't we???) Anyway, I believe I see what the issue is down there, but it would be very helpful if some of you who are a few steps ahead of us could post pics to show exactly where the problem areas are and the mods you did to fix them.

The positive battery terminal is covered with a red cover, So I wasn't worried about it. The breaker that caused the issue is best seen from under the hood. Will try to get a picture when we stop.

So, this is what I see from the front and from above with my 2019 24.1. It appears that Thor has corrected the issue. Or, is there another relay buried somewhere that I didn't see? I tried moving things around but I saw nothing other than the one that is clearly off to the side of the two hoses.
Thoughts?
