Driving 4 hours and batteries 14.2 V

Hi I have typically seen my coach at 13.6 and chassis 12.8..but on this trip see picture 14.2. Shore power nor generator ever got this high.
Does driving produce the best top battery results.
Only using what came with coach from factory?
Will solar & future inverter get 14.2?

You set the inverter for whatever voltage matches your battery type as well as the charging steps.

My coach never gets that high voltage on the battery bank on the road and i don't want it to as it would be to much drag on the Alternator.

Someone with a similar coach will have to chime in on that one.

The chassis alternator has a fixed voltage regulator and from your picture it looks like it is putting out 14.2 volts and the BIM is connecting the chassis and coach batteries so they are at the same voltage.

The converter has a variable voltage output. You can catch it at 14.4 or so if it is at the end of its "absorption cycle". Read up on three step charging cycles for more info. But after hitting that max voltage it will drop back to about 13.6 volts to its long term float setting. So it is all about when you read the voltage during its charging cycles.

Solar controllers have the same three step profile and they will also peak at 14+ volts and then drop back to the mid 13s when the batteries are full.

A fully charged 12 Volt lead acid battery will read 12.6 to 12.7 volts. Any voltage you see above that is a "surface charge" and and doesn't really add any capacity to the battery bank. Any current forced into a fully charged battery by high charging voltage causes electrolysis in the battery (AKA "boiling" a lead - acid battery) creating oxygen and hydrogen. The voltage regulators in your converter and alternator usually turn the charging voltage down to low 13 volts when they sense the batteries are fully charged. The converter is better at this than the alternator as the alternator always has a current load when the engine is running which it can not differentiate from the current going into the batteries.
