Fuse panel power source

I am changing out the factory 12v batteries to two larger 6v batteries in series. Also installing a battery monitor with a shunt. At the batteries there are two cables, About 2awg coming off the batteries,( not the cables going to the inverter). Would those 2awg cables feed all the way back to the fuse panel? If these are feeding the fuse panel , should the negitive now go through the shunt?
This is on a 2017 Four Winds 31W
