And this is why I love this forum… we have gone from gas caps, to fuel prices, to freezing weather in TX, to the president… by the way…what’s up with chicken wing prices??
The poor (really after 6 caps) OP still doesn’t know how to tether his gas cap.. I’m thinking at this point you have bought 6 caps, your 7th should be with a tether. Or try a little JB Weld if you concerned about drilling a hole, much better than duck tape…
Of course I just googled “gas cap tether” and there are many real choices, I was only joking about the JB Weld, although good stuff.
Or Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/gas-cap-tethe...gas+cap+tether
Thank you guys and gales.... you make me laugh and today I needed it.

Drill the hole in the gas cap, slather a bunch of epoxy on the hole have a nice day. If it doesn't work u have 2 spares.

My Ford Super Crew has a fill through cap. You never remove it. It has a flap in the center and you just push the fuel nozzle through it a fill your tank. Call your chassis maker and ask them if they have that to fit your application.

Those chicken wing prices are through the roof. So, I'm saving gas by not going out to buy wings which also keeps me safe from covid. Once winter is over and the refineries are at full production, gas prices should drop and I'm gonna take that stimulus check the president gave me and blow most of it at BBWs. The rest of it I'm spending on a couple of spare gas caps with heavy duty chains and a hole drilled to fit.
For the OP, glue a small but strong magnet on the handle of the cap and glue a piece of metal next to your gas full-up. I did this on my old truck years ago. I forgot to put it back on just once...but it was still there when I got home.

Hi All,
Haven't logged on in a month but see things are as usual (main topic morphs into secondary topic, then politics, etc.)
Yeah Baby!
Oh, I'd go with a replacement cap/tether on mine.

On my motorcycle forums we often have threads like: "Where do you put your gas cap when you're filling up"? Always a lot of joking around in those threads!
And my answer? I place mine upside down on my seat. Awful hard to ride away sitting on the cap and not notice it! (Ok, back to rv's!)

Gas Cap

That said, anyone have an idea on how to attach it with some sort of wire / chain. I thought of drilling a hole sideways through the cap but not sure if that would cause a venting and the engine light to come on.
Your thoughts......

Glue it on and just drive until you run out of fuel. Them just buy a new RV. Make sure the new RV is already full of fuel.

That solution is the same as mine.
It only took me five or six mistakes; to get the message.

I drilled into the handle on the cap. It's on the outside of the seal, so it doesn't affect the sealing of the cap. I used some small diameter cable and two electrical ring connectors to make a short leash. Screwed one end to the cap, and the other to a screw on the filler bezel. Don't tighten all the way on the cap, so it swivels when you turn the cap. I did the same thing on my Jeep.
