Gas cap tie down idea needed

Ok, First let me say, YES, it's pathetic. I have gone through leaving my gas cap at the gas station 3 times now. 2 was me and now 1 was my dear wife.
I ordered from amazon 3 new ones (Planning for the future)

That said, anyone have an idea on how to attach it with some sort of wire / chain. I thought of drilling a hole sideways through the cap but not sure if that would cause a venting and the engine light to come on.

Your thoughts......

Why not just set the cap where you can't drive away without it?
Like set it on your sill plate, and leave lhe door ajar...

The f53 chassis motorhomes have tethered gas caps:

I'm assuming yours doesn't?

This is supposed to fit your E450:

My Vegas has the tether on its OEM cap

But when I decided to change to a locking gas cap, the tether didn’t fit so i had to really be aware each time after filling the tank

Then, I recently “left behind” the locking gas cap at a station.
Didn’t realize until I was 90 miles away with no plans on returning.

With the price of fuel increasing dramatically post-pandemic...a locking gas cap will become necessary again

Now I was able to get the tether off my OEM cap, and adapt it to the Stant...

To be clear. My original cap had a tether on it but was broken and no longer connected to the body that is how I lost the first one. I'm considering drilling a hole in the handle of the cap but not sure if I will open the vent that the cap is preventing (no pun intended)

If it's the same as mine: you should be able to remove and replace it...

Sooo, why didn't you buy a replacement OEM cap with the included tether?

Good question. When I got the first one I was on the road and limited to the type of cap.
The afterwards, well I guess I'm cheap and thought, Hell; why do I need a tether on the cap. So here I am......

Then the solution to your dilemma should be clear now.

Back in the 2004 hurricane season I filled all my vehicles, RV included, with gas in case I needed it later to run my portable home generator. Low and behold when I tried to siphon the gas out after the storm I found that they all had anti-siphon features and I couldn't siphon from any of them, RV included, though we ended up living in the RV for 3 weeks and running the genny. I have been working under the assumption that my newer vehicles also had siphon prevention features. While I used to use locking gas caps to protect my gas from being stolen, now it's more to prevent something from being added to the tank that would damage the engine. Am I wrong, are current tanks siphonable?

I dont really want to get political but the higher gas prices have nothing to do with covid. its all the new administration

Gas prices are an international priced on demand. Don’t you remember when just a few months ago oil was at minus numbers based on demand. Buy electric. I got a Prius in 2010 and I love it. 53 mph and I fill up when I want to not when I have to

That's pretty simplistic thinking. Demand is only one part of the equation, supply is another large part, but there are many other factors involved in determining what the price at your particular pump is, or the price in your geographical area or country for that matter.

And I'm sorry your Prius only goes 53 mph. I see Priuses on the interstate all the time doing 70+ mph.

Why do you have to bring politics into everything. If you check the facts you would see it was the snow and freeze in Texas that damaged a lot of equipment at the refineries and it will be some time before they get everything up and running again.

Lightbulb Gas

I highly doubt a freeze in Texas increased the price of oil per barrel.
