Question Generator False start?

We haven't had need to use the generator often but I start it occasionally. the last 2 times I started it ( sitting in the driveway - free standing - coach motor running) the generator ran for a brief period (? a minute) and died. I restarted and it ran as long as I wanted it to. Taking the grandkids camping next week wondering if it's a problem developing?

Did you prime it before starting the first time. You prime by holding the switch in the off position for a few seconds. The generator sounds like it lost pressure in the fuel line...just ran a few seconds until used the fuel in the line and then hit an air pocket and died. It should be fine but suggest always priming after it has set for several days.

I start the generator by holding down the start button in the coach, as shown by camping world when we purchased the RV.. Typically the generator "chugs" for 5-10 seconds then kicks in and runs.

Yeah if you haven't run it in a while the fuel in the carb can evaporate. In that case you have to prime it by holding the start/stop switch on stop until the LED comes on. Hold it that way for 15-30 seconds (during that time the fuel pump is running).

Then attempt to start it.

You are better off reading the material that came with your RV for each of the components your RV contains. Onan does say to prime.

Mine needs a load or it over-speeds and shuts down after about a minute. Look at the error code and see what it tells you.

That's an issue that needs to be resolved. Not normal.

Smile Generator false starts?

Thanks to everyone for their information and suggestions. I did prime as recommended and seems to work. downloaded generator manual and read through it. Thanks again.
