Checking the DEF level
Hello Thor Owners!
I have a 2016 Thor Four Winds 33SW Super C motorhome on the Ford F-550 chassis. I have not been able to locate the DEF level indication system, if there is one. I have also been very frustrated when trying to fill the DEF tank at the truck stops.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Marshall Poe

Ours only displays a message when the level is low, no ongoing display that I know of on our Mercedes Sprinter chassis. Don't know if Ford does or not. We were advised to refill DEF every 7th tank of fuel. I was also told that once that DEF warning message comes on, you can continue to drive for quite a few more miles, before it runs out.

Well, the DEF tank fill issue was solved by ordering the 21GU Mis-Filling Prevention Device (MFPD) (see picture). It contains the magnets necessary to allow you to fill the DEF tank at the DEF pump at any truck stop.

I have the same issue on my Class C chateau. It will not fill properly and shuts the pump off every two seconds. Takes me forever to fill it. Is this the problem on a gas engine? Dealer told me pipe was crushed and they fixed it but said it was a Chevy problem and not a Thor problem

It may be. This device tells the pump to lower the fill rate for non-semi truck tanks. I know this fixes the DEF fill issue.

Does this part just snap in over the existing gas Inlet?

No, this has nothing to do with filling a gas tank. This device is for the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank fill.
Comments/questions about filling a gas tank are in a different thread.

Hey... I have a 2017 Thor Diesel... can anyone tell me when it is ok to add DEF? Can it be topped off or should I wait for a low level indicator? Also... is there a difference in Ultra low sulfur fuel? And Diesel 2?

DEF = Diesel exhaust fluid, (Diesel exhaust fluid is an aqueous urea solution made with 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionized water) necessary for any diesel made 2010 or later. We have the Mercedes chassis on which the Gemini is built, uses DEF, but not that much, at least when underway. If you are in stop and go traffic, or idle a lot DEF consumption will skyrocket. DEF can be added anytime, most vehicles do have some sort of display. On mine, one of the buttons near speedometer, shifts the fuel level display to DEF level display.

Thank you Laco for your response and explanation. I am only 2 weeks old with my Gemini... could you tell me the absolute need for Ultra low sulfur fuel vs Diesel 2? This Ultra low seems a little harder to find on a normal

I bought a CTS monitor that plugs into the OBD port in my pickup, it reads all the values that the dash doesn’t include, even had a little red light that glows when it’s regenerating. It tells you the load on the exhaust ( the higher the percentage of load, the closer to regen) and it tells you the DEF level in your tank.
It also gives to exhaust temps so you know when it safe to shut down your engine.
I’ve had this monitor in my last few pickups.
Will be putting one one my Challenger even though it’s a gasser. I just like more info on what the motor is doing.

ULS diesel is pretty much all that has been available since 2010. No. 2 diesel dispensed today would be ULSD, as required by law. For some reason California does not require the label at diesel pumps to say ULSD, but it is required to be ULSD.
