Inside Accessories Not Working With Coach Power On

I have a 2019 Thor Four Winds Class C motorhome. We used it last week for a four day camping trip with no problems. I noticed last night that with the coach power on (not plugged up to shore power), nothing inside the coach worked. The lights on the panel would not come on. The inside lights, water pump, radio, etc. would not come on. I cranked the engine and let it run a few minutes, shut it off and things seemed to work. The panel showed the battery 3/4 charged. None of the circuit breakers was flipped.

I then shut the coach power off, left it overnight and had the same issue this morning where nothing inside the coach works. Can anyone help me understand what is going on?

Thanks!
Dan

I think that you need to let those coach batteries get fully charged-up.
Hook up to shore power, and leave the "Use/Store" switch set to "Use".

Thanks, Bob for replying.

We were plugged into shore power last week for 5 - 6 days, plus the travel time to and from our campground would have also charged the battery. I would have thought it would have been fully charged.

Is it time to replace the coach battery? They are less than 2 years old.

Dan

When did you last check their water levels?

Question

Have you checked the water level in the "house" battery(ies)?

{Looks like Bob and I are sharing the brain today!}

Not today, but fairly recently. I checked the fluid level before we left on a three week trip back in August.

Is the Battery disconnect (salesmen switch) switch ON? Sound like it is off.

Lights, water pump radio are 12 volts. Circuit breakers are 120 volts. Just because the light is on at the disconnect switch does not mean it is on. Use a coach ceiling light to determine if the switch is on or off.

If you suspect the coach batteries, just have them tested to be sure they are fully charged and no dead cells. Most auto part stores will test them for free. You just have to get them out and to the store or you can buy a tester and check them at home yourself. It needs a tester that applies a load to them.

Cavie,

Yes, the switch is on as stated in my OP. I did check initially to see if some of the interior lights would work, but they did not.

Thanks,
Dan

Your batteries are not charged.

Running the engine for a few minutes put a small charge on them - they quickly die again.

You have to disconnect the batteries when not using the RV with the battery disconnect switch if not plugged into SP. The fact that your batteries were dead means you could not have moved the battery disconnect to the ON position if it was in the OFF position until you got a charge in the batteries. So if the latching relay really was in the ON position, it had to have been left that way.

So, as others have said, check your batteries' water level, charge them for a day, and then have them load tested to see what their status is. If they are the original batteries and you got two years out of them after being drained and abused multiple times on the dealer's lot, and now just recently drained by you, they may indeed need to be replaced.

I charged the coach battery for several hours yesterday and turned the coach power switch off last night after charging. I turned it on this morning and the battery shows "full". The battery was apparently discharged as was noted by several folks. Thanks for your help!

Sounds like batteries check the connections also. And charge them fully.

Your batteries may be bad. Sounds like they won’t hold a charge.
