Greetings, cold air stop blowing A/C

Myself and the family took a short weekend trip in our 2018 Thor Vegas 25.3, this past weekend and about 30 minutes into the drive the a/c stop blowing cold air and it was just warm air. The RV has not been driven a lot only has 5800 miles and I’m praying it is not the entire unit does anyone think it might just need Freon? Your comments are welcome 🤗

When you turned it off for a while, and then back on, did it get cold for another 30 minutes?

Use this and you might create a really sticky valve and cause lots of problems.

I think a diagnosis is in order before we

Okay, hmmm �� I never used Freon before:-( so where is the port located on the engine to do Freon text

You likely have a bad part that costs about $50. It's electrical and doesn't have a Freon connection. It's a wire connector and a probe. Maybe one screw holding it in place.

It's not a thor or ford part, its peculiar to the ac system which is mostly not ford and absolutely nothing to do with Thor.

Someone will know the name of the part. It's an easy thing that measures temp on the chingaso or whatzit,
maybe it's called the condenser coil temp sensor. Probably part # a46-3122-030.
Possibly Evans ac. stuff. It tells the compressor when to turn off.

Ours has done what yours does, since ours was new.
Its too easy for me to just turn it off for 10 minutes and then back on.
If we ever need any other under hood repair we'll have it fixed then.
It causes no appreciable damage.

My mom's 1971(?) Automatic, ac, power steering, Vega hatchback did the same.

Go to an ac pro, NOT an rv place, to double check me. Your description of symptoms is sparse and a pro can do the repair with a guarantee.
Do not use that Freon kit under any circumstance. That's for whoopdies, not for valuable vehicles.

Your extended warranty might cover this repair. It's worth asking.

DO NOT add freon unless you are sure it is low. The a/c pro fill kit has a cheap gauge that will tell you if it needs juice. Unfortunately most inexperienced jamokes hook up the bottle, don't believe what the gauge is telling them and pull the trigger and overcharge the system. If it is low on freon then putting a blast of juice into the system is only a band aid anyway. The source of the leak needs to be located and repairs made before the system is evacuated and recharged.
It could be a bad a thermistor. Or a low pressure cut off switch is going bad. Either of these does not require breaking the system open to repair.

Assuming the OP has a Coleman Mach, they do not have high and low pressure ports like a car or home A/C unit does so you can't add freon like you would to yoru car's unit.

They are sealed unit that can't be serviced should their be a freon leak..... unless you are an A/C technician with all the equipment and you hack the unit.

OP.... if you have a Coleman Mach unit, there is a freeze sensor / switch in the unit. If that sensor fell out of the evaporator coils, it is possible the coils were freezing up and without the sensor knowing ice was building, the compressor would not have cycled off to let the ice melt. In this case the coils would freeze over and air could not be pulled over the coils to cool.

If you pull the cover off inside the coach, look for a white wire. It should lead to a sensor that is pushed into the coils of the evaporator. If it is dangling free inside the unit, then it can't tell when ice is forming on the evaporator and it can block with ice and stop blowing cold air.

The sensor needs to be inserted about a 1/3 of the way up the evaporator coils.

Yeah, I am confused very easily reading some posts...
I was scratching, about where the OP was having the problem, on the roof or under the hood...?
But they did say "so where is the port located on the engine to do Freon"... I would think they then are referring to the dash A/C... but I will still not hazard a guess.

That could be my bad........

I was thinking he had the house A/C running while he was driving versus the chassis A/C. I tend to think most of the forum posts are RV related vs auto related.

That being the case.... I have another suggestion.

Low freon can certainly cause the chassis compressor to cycle on and off. However, I have a very lightly used 2002 Lexus ES300 and two years ago the same thing was happening. It would be cold.... then blow warm error. If I turned the A/C off at the dash and then on again, it would work for a bit and then go back to blowing cold air.

After a little online research, I discovered there is a relay in the power distribution box under the hood for the compressor that can go bad and cause this to occur. I picked up the relay at Autozone for $20 and it fixed the problem.

I had that problem, and being curious, I looked under the front of the engine and found the ac clutch laying on some hoses. The shaft had broken off just in front of the drive pulley. It was fixed under Ford warranty.

It is the “Thermistor “ probe that goes into a/c box I got mine for around $50. From a big truck parts store same product as in semi a/c systems. I have av2017 Vegas 24.1 I took mine to Ford dealer who had it over a week couldn’t find the problem friend of mine had it a day and found the problem freezing up a/c system.
