Hail damage on awnings and slide out cover...

Had a terrible hail storm last Friday. inspected the awning (which was retracted at the time) and the slide cover (also retracted)

Had some small tears-punctures right at the RV on both. I was wondering if anyone had used some sort of "tape" to mend small "issues" with their awnings and what they used...

Got a large deductible on insurance so dont think that damage would exceed deductible, so doubt if I even turn it in...

Already out money on house roof and cars, so trying to do the most economical (but effective) I can be...

Exclamation

Eternabond tape, perhaps ? Haven't used it personally but I've read some pretty good reviews about it.

There is a tape product from Camco that can be used for small holes in an awning. I have never used it but I did use white duck brand tape on my last awning. It had a small hole and I put a piece of tape on both sides. It held for years.

Any good PVC electric tape should work. Make sure the areas for repair are clean. Then for good measure apply a spray adhesive on the area for repair, allow to tack up and apply the tape. Do this on both sides of repair. Fixed a couple tears in our last Rigs awning like this and after 5 years we traded it in and the repairs were still good.

Gorilla Tape...best stuff in the world. Available in different colors but the area you speak of is pretty much out of sight anyway. Whatever you use, make sure it stays pliable. I've never used Flex-Crap products but their tape would probably work well also. I used Gorilla Tape to seal a few rips on a Jeep Bestop top and it was still doing it's job a year later with no issues. Eventually replaced top and sold Jeep.

Have you talked to your Insurance Agent about this yet?

If he files a claim, they'll just jack up his rates so...between his deductible and the rate hike, it's a lose/lose proposition.

Not necessarily...
Depending on your State's Insurance regulations: Comprehensive claims are usually not considered to be surchargeable events.

Spoke to them (had to turn in a claim on an out building whose rood was basically destroyed) I have 2,000 deductible on the RV (except for glass) and I dont think even with everything thrown in, it isnt going to come close to that..

(Plus I tend to try and keep the RV under our control and try to fix everything I possibly can) Still have memories of the dealer wanting to keep the coach two months until they got parts...

Thanks for the confirmation. That was my thoughts of what to do, but nice to get some reassurance..

I'd buy the eternabond and the associated cleaner loooonnnggg before I'd buy some sort of adhesive and some sort of pvc tape.

It'll work, it'll work just fine, but eternabond and their preclean is a known entity with known results.

I love gorilla tape but in hot weather the adhesive will creep out from under it.

The clear stuff cw sells for what seems like wwwaaayyy too much money is almost as good as eternabond but there is some adhesive creep with it also. Just a little but enough to tack up the awning.

Your post didn't 'prompt' me to consider adhesive tapes. The rollers on my awning rub and have caused a thin spot. I could have had it fixed under warranty but I only need a patch, not an entire awning. My tape search has been on-going.

My hubby used flex tape on a slit on our slide cover. It's been on there over a year and still holding.

Where were you when you experienced the hail?
