Half Dead RV

2019 Thor ACE 30.2

Our RV stays in our driveway, hooked up. We’re currently using it as a kitchen while we remodel our home kitchen. This morning the following things do not work:

• Heater
• Both rooftop AC units (no AC or fan)
• Refrigerator and freezer
• Tank fill sensor indicator lights

Breakers are all set. All electrical receptacles work. Microwave works. Awning, slide, all lights, water pump, all work.

We have a full tank of propane; the gas stove and oven work. This is particularly puzzling for the refrigerator since it has two power sources.

Any ideas? I am mechanically inclined, and at a complete loss. Thanks in advance.

I just tried cycling all the breakers and the main 12v power switch. No change.

Don't know if you have a converter or inverter but whichever it isn't working. Start from there

Add you RV info for better advice

I tested all the fuses and they were fine. There’s one 15 amp (15 Black) that doesn’t have leads on the back. I pulled that one and reset it. It worked. Pulled it a second time to double check continuity, reset it, and everything turned on! Crisis averted. I’ll leave this post here for future reference.

I’m still a little unsure of what exactly happened, but whatever.

Look at the back of the converter there might be 2 fuses behind it

Everything you listed requires 12 VDC to operate. Do your overhead lights work?
Is your fridge residential or absorption?

Got a multimeter? Measure some DC voltages:
House battery Bank
Both sides of all fuses

If plugged into SP you should see at least 13.1 VDC on all DC load locations.

He said microwave works. Plus he fixed it by pulling 12v fuses.

Microwave doesn't require 12 VDC and I missed he resolved it with the black fuse in post #4. Must have been the "Appliances" fuse.

I'm glad you found the problem. Check the connection on that black fuse, and clean the terminals and the fuse or it will probably happen again in the future

Haha - It happened again tonight. I pulled the fuse and replaced it with a different 15 fuse and it works fine again. I’ll definitely pull up the bed and check the connection behind the fuse box when I have more time.

Anyone know the difference between the “black” fuse and a normal blade fuse, other than appearance?Click image for larger version

Blue is a fuse and black is a circuit breaker. Gold 30amp, if you have any of those are also breakers.

Oh wow, a tiny circuit breaker. I replaced it with a fuse, so I guess I’ll be replacing a popped fuse with that black one tomorrow morning. Haha WHOOPS!

Not necessarily: Those thermal circuit breakers get weak with age so it may have been popping early. But if the fuse does pop, it means you should figure out which one of those loads is causing it.

Snap action circuit breaker around 30 dollars on Amazon. Others had the same problem, they replaced it and didn't had a problem again

Are you running on a 50amp plug or a 30amp plug? The 50 amp plug uses 220v and splits 120v to each side of Rv, could be in the transfer switch or a issue with power coming from the house.

Did you read the thread? The issue was resolved.

Unfortunately, it’s happening again, but now pulling the black appliances fuse giving it a few mins and setting it back in place does not bring the power back.

The funny thing is that the appliances fuse also handles the lights, which ARE working. I also tested the black fuse for continuity and it’s fine.

I replaced the black fuse with a normal 15 amp and the lights come on, but not the appliances.

I am once again at a loss.

I can replace the black fuse, but I am sure that won’t fix it. It’s like there’s another fuse or breaker somewhere that can reset itself, but is no longer doing that. Speaking of which, all the breakers are good.

So apparently the issue wasn’t resolved, to me that sounds like a intermittent power connection that would trip the breaker, and by replacing the breaker made a arc connection for awhile, has to be bad connection somewhere down stream from that breaker or fuse, only thing you can do is track power and ground wires all the way to each appliance and look for burnt or corroded connection.

What if the fuse doesn’t pop, but the appliances now don’t work again? What other single item could case all those appliances to die?

And was pulling it and replacing it sheer coincidence before? I have a hard time with that.
