Vegas 24.1 windshield wiper control panel?

On My 2015 Vegas 24.1, Thor installed their own wiper control panel. Why didn't they simply use the one already equipped on the Ford steering column? What do I need to do to convert it back to use the Ford wiper control arm?

I wondered the same. Seems to me to be another point of failure.

Do you suppose the stock wiper control can't handle the bigger wiper motors required for that huge windshield? That's my theory. That dash switch does take some practice to master. Just another quirky thing to learn. I am not near the manual, but I wonder, is this explained in the disappointingly generic manual?

Maybe it's that you can't wire a Chevrolet wiper to a Ford control arm! My Ford mechanics told me that the wiper is a Chevrolet part. Why Thor is using Chevrolet parts in the construction of their RV on a Ford chassis?

When the windshield washer pump failed on our 2014 Vegas, due to the fluid entering the contacts on the pump itself, it caused the F35 fuse located in the left hand outside storage to blow.
The Jensen 212 radio is on the same circuit as the windshield washer pump.
Replaced the pump and solved the washer and radio issues.

That is news to me: My windshield washer pump and Jensen radio are on two separate fuses in the outside storage panel. (I know this for a fact since I've blown both independently.)

Regarding the wiper switch:

Unless I am mistaken the stripped chassis does not include a windshield or any wiper functionality when delivered from Ford and it is the body manufacturer's responsibility to install a windshield, wipers. motors etc..

The cutaway chassis does include stock wipers etc... because it is delivered with a windshield.

I believe that is why Ford does not warranty any wiper related items on any Class A coaches (Thor or anyone else's).

Dave: Is it similar on your coach? (e.g. wiper control panel on the dash and Ford's stalk on the steering column does nothing?)

Actually my Challenger on the F53 has the standard Ford configuration for the wiper and washer switch (on the turn signal arm). I believe with all the other switches (shade, fans, overhead lights, generator, fog lights, etc...) Thor ran out of dash board space and figured they better leave well enough alone.

Apparently I was mistaken on the previous post.

Does you Ford owner's manual show a wiper switch?

Well if you look at page 8 in the upfitters guide for the E-350 stripped chassis:
https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...iring_v1-0.pdf

The left diagram has the plug for the wiper connections if you desire to wire up the stalk.

I think the owner's manual is just the manual for an E-350 (e.g. the full van) and thus does mention the switch. The Thor owner's manual is generic junk.

Jamie,

Is your steering wheel stock Ford or is it after market? It would seem strange Ford would install a stock wheel but go to something other than the stock wiper signal arm and switch.

The steering wheel and column are stock Ford parts--at least the steering wheel is the same I've seen in the van's I've driven and the stalks (turn signal, etc.) are the same in other Ford vehicles thus I'm assuming they are stock.

I'd love for someone to experiment with hooking up the wiper stalk-switch. It would sure be more convenient!

I suspect the issue is with the intermittent wiper function. The stalk-switch has the normal three or four positions for intermittent and one position each for off/slow/fast. The Thor switch uses momentary push for on/off and up/down to increase the delay and wiper speed.

If the smarts to interpret the pushes are in the switch unit and it sends "standard" on/off/fast/slow signals to the wiper motor it may be possible to enable the stalk-switch. On the other had, if the intelligence is in the motor and it expects momentary signals then it won't be possible.

Regards,

Randy

Any updates?

Did anyone figure this out if you can use the stalk?

New to RVing

We are on our first long trip. Wipers won’t turn off unless you turn off engine.
Anyone have any comments to this wiper issue?

Did you try pushing the wiper button in again? (The one on the dashboard, not the stalk)

Push in: on
toggle up/down: faster/slower
Push in again: off
