Where the heck is the ats located?

Hello all, I'm trying to troubleshoot a power problem from my generator on a 2015 freedom elite 28h. If you have a similar model and know where the automatic transfer switch is, please let me know. I would like to inspect it for problems before assuming my generator is bad.

Thx

I don’t have your model but it should be easy to find. It will be what the shore power cord is attached to or if your cord is of the removable variety you can trace the inlet wiring to the ATS. It’ll also be the first thing the generator output wiring goes to.

Ditto! The shorepower cord will lead you right to it.
It might look something like this...

Your generator also has circuit breakers. Make sure they aren’t tripped.

Yes, I did try the generator breaker first but that did not resolve anything. I am suspecting that the ats is partly bad on the generator side or may have a loose connection. Everything works from shore power.

On our 2021 FW 28A, it is underneath the dinette seat nearest the driver's seat.

Thanks for the photo, I dont think ours is in that exact spot but hadnt thought to look under the dinette bench. The one right behind our driver's seat had a humongous drawer but it could be under the other bench. I'm going to go look again tomorrow and hoping I can let everyone know I found it!

It's probably close to the breaker box, I would imagine.

Wow, I hadn't thought about it being right behind the breaker box, do I have to pull out the whole electrical panel to get to it if it's back there?

95% of my electrical components are crammed under the bed in the rear. Look around the electric breaker panel inside for a removable access panel. It's intentionally a little difficult (screws & such) to keep accidentally curious fingers out. Mine also has a large removable panel in the back wall of an outside storage compartment which is under part of the bed. That's where our transfer switch is located.

Actually the breaker panel itself is usually easy to remove... there's a couple small screws holding the cover on, then four screws in the corners holding the whole panel in. Obviously - make sure shore power is unplugged!! By pulling that, you may see an easier access from behind it.

I don’t have the OPs model so the ATS certainly could be behind the breaker panel and I would t know it. But on my several coaches it always has been in or near the electrical compartment. I’d look there first.

You can get the schematics for your coach from THOR and that will tell you where your ATS is.

That was a really good idea, I logged into my thor account and looked through the documents. All I can find is the electrical connections with block diagrams. Can't find anything with our layout included. The diagrams I found did confirm that it should be close to the electrical panel which is on the wall in the bedroom.

Ok, so the ats is under our bed. I inspected it and it looks in good condition. I'm going to do some testing with a multimeter and see if it is getting power from the generator. I suppose there's a possibility the breaker on the generator is bad as well. Will update when I have some results.

Strange that they would put electrical components right next to water tank, pump, etc
