Battery charging

Should the house batteries be charged by shore power, or do they get charged by the motor alternator/external generator? House batteries are new. I've been stationary for a couple of months, running on shore power. I checked them today via the xantrex inverter and they were under 11 volts.

They will be charged IF the USE/STORE switch is in USE. Otherwise they are disconnected from the converter/shore power.

Thanks! I just clicked the switch to "USE". I think it was already in that position, but we will see if that helps.

Answer to your question is that they should charge by both, being plugged to shore power and by the engine going down the road. In both cases have to switch on "USE".

As far as I can tell: if you've got the chassis engine, the generator, or a power cord supplying power; set the switch to "use".
If not: disconnect everything, and go to the "Store" position.

The rule is simple: Always in Use unless in storage unplugged.

And note that at least on mine, plugged in with the use switch off the switch is lit up anyway. I use the inverter display to verify that the converter is on since when it's on the battery voltage will be higher than when it's off.

The circuit breaker for the converter/charger must also be on for the batteries to charge on shore power or generator power.

Thanks all! It appears the Use/Storage switch had been inadvertently bumped to Storage. All is now good. Lesson Learned.
