They are only putting them on shower and tub drains for low clearance.

One thing to consider with the installation of this type valve is the potential loss of anything accidentally dropped into the sink such as jewelry that might otherwise get caught in the p-trap.
Even with that thought I believe I will install one in the bathroom when I am changing out the countertop and sink.
