Jamie -- I assume there is a cable on each side of the bunk (passenger and driver's side). They basically work the way the cable and pulleys work on a garage door. Their function is to support weight on the front of the bunk. They in essence work like a sling to support the weight. The bottom pulley near the rack must also have a torsion spring in it to reel the cable in and out, otherwise there is no way to take out the cable slack as the bunk comes up.

I added an explanation and the diagram to mu Axis/Vegas manual.

Robert,

From what you describe I would look at the motor as another potential issue. Along with moving the bunk up and down the motor also serves as a brake to hold the slide, and in this case, the bunk in place. That is why during manual operation you have to unplug the motor before manually pushing in a slide. If the bunk motor has too much slop it may be causing the bunk to drop the way you are experiencing.

Robert -- I wrote an owner's guide and checklists for my 2015 Vegas 24.1 because I was disappointed with the generic manual from Thor. Several of the folks on this forum who own Vegas/Axis contributed comments, suggestions explaining how things work on the Vegas and Axis. When I completed it, I made it available to anyone on the forum who might want a cy. So far I've distributed about 275 copies.

It would probably be useful to you in explaining how things work and providing guidance on sanitizing the water system, winterizing, storing, etc. The checklists would probably be useful to you. The big difference is that in the manual section I have photos showing where everything is located (low point drains, heater plumbing bypass, Schwentek slide and lift controllers, etc). Those parts would not be relevant to you; however, you could replace my pix with pix from your Challenger and edit the paragraphs and you'd wind up with a unique Challenger Manual.

Send your email to bevedfelker@live.com and I'll forward you a cy.

Yeah was having problems wording it correctly: The cable never goes slack as the length is always the same; it just changes position.

Cleaned and waxed the Vegas today. While I was cleaning the interior, I removed the false side panel on the top shelf of the cabinet over the sink. This is where Thor said the Schwentek bunk controller was located. Took a picture and sure enough -- Thor customer service was right.
