Hot Water smells bad

Why does my hot water stink whenI turn it on in the shower? Is there an anode in there? I have a forwinds 23U.

What kind of water are you putting in it, well or city?

Water with sulfates or sulfides with iron in water will smell after 20 days or so. Here in Texas I pull the low point drains, drain the fresh water tank and water heater after every trip. Our water comes out of the Edwards Aquifer but the village strains out the Texas blind salamanders, but it will still stink if left sitting (It is a local joke).

I do the same here in Arizona. I pull the low point drains, drain the fresh water tank and water heater after every trip.

Sulfate reducing bacteria ususis responsible for the odor in hot water

Try to get water from a different source and drain immediately as noted when not in use

Oxidizers will help reduce the odor followed by carbon filters

Rinse with SRB free water also

When we were kids: we'd end up washing in the creek behind our house during the Summer...

It would be nice to relive some of those days for sure

I have experienced the sulfur smell in the shower and it will take your breath away, certainly learn to avoid using those water sources when possible

Anyone trying to clean up or get rid of the odor needs to run the oxidizer through the hot water heater as well
