Hidden Fuse - Overhead Lights

Our 2019 22FE 12v fuse panel is not wired correctly. None of the 11 fuses under the bed control the overhead lights or the stove knob lights (the overhead lights should be on the fuse for the "Right Side") . I found several hidden fuses under the sink but still nothing for the overhead lights. Has anyone noticed this odd wiring and know where the hidden fuse may be ? I have contacted Thor support and they advised not all units are wired the same and to look in the cab or under hood but nothing there except Ford items.

I don’t have a 22FE, but if you are talking about the breakers under your bed adjacent to the converter/charger, they only control the 120V appliances. There is a separate fuse box with automotive type bayonet fuses which controls the 12v functions like the over head lights. In my Axis it is located in one of the outside boxes.

For the 22FE the power center under the bed has both the breakers and the 12V fuses. Everything on the RV works fine, I just want to find the fuse for the overhead lights in case i ever need to replace it. As a test, I turned on the lights on the right side and overhead and then removed each of the 11 fuses one at a time to prove none of them controlled the lights . The search continues !

There is a fuse box in the engine compartment for the Ford chassis. I wonder if Thor used the wires for the overhead cab light to run your interior lights. If they did they did the lights would be hooked to a fuse in the engine box.

There should also be a Battery Control Center, usually a black box mounted close to the coach batteries, possibly under the steps. Inside the box are a number of additional 12VDC fuses.

I found 2 fuses in that location so far, one for the awning LEDs and the other is wired to the battery disconnect, I will take another look to see if there are more. Thanks

The Search Continues,
Checked behind the light switch (under sink), drivers kick panel, firewall and next to battery. No second box found yet. I did try and talk to one of my local Camping World service centers (I am within 20 miles of 2 of them), got pushed to some office person who had no idea what I was even asking and basically refused to let me talk with a real service tech. Lack of time that day prevented me from going Way above her head for a few words with the manager.. I will pursue that later. Taking the golden dogs on another RV adventure this weekend.

Pretty sure that you have one of those black boxes. I have seen them located beneath entry steps, under the bed, and also in outdoor storage compartments. The main purpose is to control which sources provide power from the converter or alternator to charge the batteries. Box normally measures approx. 10"x10"x6". Front cover is removable. Sometimes it is mounted to the chassis.

Couple items for you.....

First, go to the Thor Owners Resource site and you can download every document they have for your rig. It will include some electrical information but not every detail. I have had to do a lot of my own digging to figure what they have done in terms of electrical with some of the circuits.

https://www.thormotorcoach.com/owner-resource/

The next thing to try to eliminate that they used the Ford 12V for your lights..... pull the negative cable off your chassis battery and see if you still have your overhead lights. If you do, then you know there has to be a fuse off the house battery circuits. If the lights go off, then you can look at the Ford fuses.

Thor is great about hiding fuses! They didn't even label the 12V Fuse side of my WFCO panel. I had to email support and they sent me the attached legend. You can see there isn't a lot of detail in some cases.

Thor was correct telling you that not all of these things are wired the same. It depends who is doing it and when. I have seen a lot of rigs that used wire nuts and they did a terrible job with the connections. My rig was done with WAGO connectors and the wiring was a little better than some I have seen.... but still far from what I would call well done.

I have found hidden fuses in the cubby hole behind my awning and entry light switches. I have also seen hidden fuses in the rats nest of wiring behind my WFCO panel / converter. There is no documentation on what circuits those fuses control. I should probably start pulling those hidden fuses to figure out what they control.... or I will be doing that when I eventually have an issue with a circuit.

I found a blown fuse under the hood (hidden under the engine coolant reservoir) by accident when troubleshooting another issue. It was for the Emergency Start Relay that ties the house batteries to the chassis battery in case you can't start the rig. It was bad from the day I picked it up because the chassis battery was dead during the PDI and the Emergency Start didn't start the engine. They blamed it on all the batteries needing charged but it was the fuse that wouldn't let the Emergency Start do it's job.

Thanks Judge, my next step will be pulling the negative cable off the chassis battery. I had previously gone to the Thor site and downloaded every document for my 22FE. I would advise all Thor owners to do the same. Some of them do contain some useful information. Thor also provided me with the right-side wiring harness diagram which at least shows me the color codes of what wires should be for each circuit. Regarding the fuse labeling as you pointed out, one should remember it all depends on what mood the installer was in the day it was built. 7 and 8 and 10 and 11 are reversed on mine.

Call Thor customer service and ask for the wireing and plumbing schematics. they will email to you.

I decided to check the wiring a bit closer. Logic says if you turn on the overhead lights then pull the fuse that is supposed to be for the over head lights (nbr 3) then check the voltage on the nbr 3 lug you should get 0 V, but in this test it returns 12.4 volts and the lights remained on... Based on that I assumed the circuit must be double fused. I then proceeded to remove and replace other fuses to see which one it might be and the winner was the 5 amp number 6 fuse for the LP detector ! So, if you remove number 3 and number 6 the overhead lights go out. My guess is that at some point in the system the 2 circuits are wired together. Now the question is , does it really matter ?

I have attached image of my fuse panel showing the wire colors. Still not an exact match to the Thor chart but everything does work.
