House Battery Amp Hours

I have a 2013 Thor Chateau 24C with one slide out for the dinette/wardrobe area.

What minimum size amp hour 12 V house battery is required to operate the slide out? Will the slide out and retractable awing operate on shore power?

Minimum power is almost never a good idea. Pick any decent 12v deep cycle. Expect to pay $100 to $130 depending on what you buy. Take a look here to learn more.

I'm pretty sure the slide out and awning go zoom zoom on shore power.

On Shore power - your 12v converter/charger will provide the juice for motion...

Agree with DogLovers - don't need to get AGM or Lithium - but a good flooded lead acid battery is what you want.

call me fearful, but I don't run the slide in or out unless I am plugged in or the generator is running.

I wish the engine could be running to operate the slide, that would eliminate some steps in transition.

Make perfect sense to me.

House Battery Amp Hours

I didn't necessarily want a low cost replacement but was curious if a lower amp hour battery would produce enough dc current for the slide out. I currently have a Harris deep cycle rated 160 ah @ a 20 amp hour rate. I was curious if a 100 ah @ 20 would get the job done?

Has some age (3 years) plus MH stored for winter months, so no trickle charge or use since last fall. Just exploring options if replacement becomes necessary. Have battery on trickle charge now and its voltage is slowly coming up.

You might have to call Thor to find out the mfg specs on the motor and projected load during use. I'm thinking only they would know the minimum.

Amp-hour is the total capacity of energy the battery can contain. The lawn tractor battery at Lowes or Home Depot would have a pretty low amp-hour rating but will easily supply the 12 volts at the required amps to cycle your slide several times. The larger the amp-hour rating the battery has, the longer you can boondock without having to recharge or in slide terms, would provide more slide in/out cycles before having to recharge..
