How Much Weight in Storage Bins?

Quick question, how much weight will the storage bins on the ACE model hold? I don’t mean the rear garage area under the bed but the others.

Hold, as in static, is a world away from hold while going down a riffled dirt road.
One major pothole in a paved road at 70mph can add many multiples to the static weight.
So 300lbs can easily become a 1200lb jolt.
Example:
Sit a coffee cup on your foot.
Now drop the same cup from waiste height onto your foot. .

What's your plan?
I have replaced one of my rotomolded bins with metal sheet, welded braces, bolted to the frame, built an exoskeleton.
It held an easy 800lbs and went over some really really bad road while doing it.
I have built another between the rear frame rails where many people carry their spare. It will hold about 2000lbs very easily but due to handling(tongue weight) should hold only 800lbs(ish).

The bins you ask about are limited by how they mount to the body.
They probably won't crack or bend, but they will pull off of the screw heads.
I think 200lbs while on the road would be a bit much without reinforcement.
The rotomold bin I removed won't hold 15lbs by itself without seriously flexing. It's rigidity comes from the flat wall it Mounts to.

Punchline:
$300ish to a welding fabricator will relieve any doubt.

Ducky is right...
Load them with pillows: no problem
Load them with bowling balls: no good.

And please try to think through a descriptive title for a post before posting.
There isn't a reason in the world for anyone to click on this thread.

It’s a simple question but without a certain answer. I have SOB but I don’t really stress about and have a pretty heavy toolbox in one compartment. As a wild guess I’d think you should be fine with 30 lbs or more. Try to keep your heavy items towards the front of your coach and spread them around. Unless you’re toting bags of premix you’ll be fine.

I don't know the "spec" but I have carried a Honda 2000 watt inverter generator plus hoses and 30 foot/30 amp cable in one of mine.

On the other side I have about 10 folding chairs and a small pop-up canopy in a larger one.

I highly recommend doing a good inspection of the bin attachment bolts/screws as some have found them poorly installed.

I managed to bend the floor of my rear-most bin because I had the following in it before I realized how trusting I was of Thor's build quality.

1. Weber BBQ
2. Firewood
3. Small propane bottles
4. Dog food
5. Cast iron griddle
6. Bunch of miscellaneous crap.

Obviously this was a mistake and the screws pulled out of the bottom of the bin. However, in hindsight it was a blessing because I was able to identify where, in the process of installing the bins, the Thor employee over-torqued the screws and broke half of them. So...the bin was half installed and leaking water on rainy drives.

I am in the process of auditing the screws in all of my rotomolded bins and sealing the lower lip for good measure.

@ducksface - I'd like to find out more about the bins you fabricated. Have you posted on them anywhere?

Post,287 in my signature thread has a bit of,info on the front bin,
I pulled out the rootobin and built a box that encompasses all, available, sapce between frame and body.
Same in the rear.i just, filled the space with a metal box, and, cut a hatch in the floor,of the 24.1 basement for,access..

Make a foam board test box then cut,and weld.

I'll do a bunch of pictures today and post in my thread.
And
500LBS in a rotomold bin is some test bench HORSESHIT.

I think weight distribution is as important as total weight. I cut 3/8” plywood to lay in the bottom of my basement storage bins to help spread the load. I also store heavier things, like my tool box, at the ends of the compartments where the floor is better supported.
