I was interested in the same thing. My Illumagrip Handle is not lighted either.
You can add a LED light you to yours. See https://www.itc-rv.com/product/led-r...agrip-handles/
Or you may order a complete Lighted Illumagrip Handle at https://www.itc-rv.com/product-category/assist-handles/

Cool

If it only works with the awning or outside lights on....what's the point of the handle lighting up?!?!

There isn't a point when hooked up that way. It is just bling.
When hooked to a solar panel or a motion sensor, there's a point.

My plan is to source the power from the stairwell light switch
Turn that on and the handle comes on too.Well at least that’s the plan.

That sounds like a pretty smart plan!

Update : I ordered the led handle light to see if I could retro fit it into an unilluminated handle. $16. On Amazon .
I removed the handle and the base is hollow,(someone mentioned that) the clear bar is glued into the base .the replacement led will fit in thru the back of the base. It would have to be glued into position.
I found the process of ‘fishing’ wire thru a hole you would drill in side- behind base - daunting not impossible. It would require a removal of paneling (that holds existing control switches ) not for anything other then accommodating the wire fish to get the light power wires down to the stairwell light to couple it. At least that’s the process for my Outlaw.
I made the decision that having an accent light was not that important to me based upon the time and work to accomplish this retro fit would take me.
Even with all this time we have now for projects for me it wasn’t worth all the cussing it would cause.

Always that’s the fun part. I found several holes to plug to help keep critters out. I’m on a quest now on what to use my nib 12 volt led light for and every day spent poking around my motorized home is a learning experience.....what’s not to like right?

I came to the same conclusion on the Challenger 5 years ago when the DW saw one on a coach and said "That's looks Purrdy, I want one". In all actuality on the Challenger it would have helped because the porch light was on the slide and at night there was nothing to illuminate the steps after dark. Thor altered that design after I brought it to the attention of a Customer Service rep. Later production runs put the porch light on the other side of the door and not on the slide. That was a case of the engineers never going out into an actual model of the coach at night.

V1VR you've got my attention now our challenger is probably very similar to your coach. I'm going to look at putting the light in bottom base of handle, remove inside plastic door trim which runs down to step well and same side of step well as the step light. Here we go.

I’ve been thinking since I’ve got the light I may mount it just above the slide out entrance steps shinning down to illuminate the top of steps ....
Thanks for the idea , maybe license plate type light directed at steps....
