Intermittent no 12 vdc to thermostat

Intermittently AC has no 12 vdc to thermostat. Found if I tap on the outside panel to the heater the AC will start up. Have not been able to confirm the reset switch is the culprit. When the panel is opened the AC starts up. Was hoping someone else has had similar issues like this. Wondering if there is a ground in the general area that could also cause this concern?
