K&N 77-2570KTK PERFORMANCE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM install in our Axis
In the process of installing new K&N air intake, thought I would poll the people and see if anyone else has installed this in the E350 chassis.

except for some LABORATORY very slight hp gains and an additional amount of noise, they have little/no value as a better cleaner. and unless specific for, say a Camaro, have no value as a kit to get cooler/pressure increased intake charge(and then its STILL minimal...but measurable)
It's a
Seat Of The Pants
Placebo Effect.
They are silly expensive, require cleaning instead of an easy replace, and the oil they use has been under suspicion of causing intake sensor problems. This is hotly debated and oil contamination may not be a culprit. What is true is how a stock filter is not debatable when it comes to potential oily intake parts causing problems.
These are fine for hard core desert or mud racing if the need is thought to be real. On a street vehicle they are Ricky Racer type stuff.
Some people think good chrome supplies the same hp increases.
I have one on an offroad vehicle now. It is there so a filter housing isnt needed and dirt gets captured evenly allowing air to flow evenly under horrible conditions. It has a prefilter sleeve and the vehicle motion shakes 90% of dust off of the very very dry prefilter. A stock filter doesn't have the wire mesh integrity to stand up on its own if it gets wet or catches a rock. The aftermarket KN types are very durable...but add little other than durability.
I know why I don't use them on regular vehicles(I have, but they are worthless and messy...so now I don't).
What has prompted you to use one on a vehicle?
Is there a cold air pickup that routes around the axis front fascia?
Most of the kits sold as aftermarket rely on an intake location change for most of their laboratory gain numbers.

That’s amazing, as I read your review it seems real operant that you have very little knowledge of K&N products, I will continue to install the filter with performance data and (Friends that have installed them in there MHs) that are very pleased with added performance and logged fuel improvements. Along with the Shiny 5Star Tuner I have installed we should happily motor down the road with added performance and increased fuel economy.
I will post pics once installation is complete. I hope others will see that value in this upgrade.

Did you notice any difference in the 5 star tuner?
Specifically more horsepower or shifting differences when going up hill?

For sure performance but the shifting pattern was a game changer.

I've used drop in K&N's in severl cars, currently have a afe in our jeep.
Would you mind getting a noise meter app for your phone
And take some readiings before and after you install the intake system, at cruising speed, 3500 rpm and WOT would be great
This would be the deciding factor (for me and probably others) before installing
Thanks and enjoy

You bet, I am waiting for K&N to send the air flow sensor adapter that bolts to the air box, they seem to of forgot to include in box! also I have fabricated a cover (Aluminum Diamond Plate) and added additional Fresh Air in front of the air dam to the are box for additional supply so noise should be no more then stock also have some sound material left over from the fire wall and engine cover that I will install if needed.. Trial and error for sure but being retired I can’t think of a better project! we are heading to Valdez AK the 14th spending a few days there then getting on the Ferry to Whittier then off to Seward... a few good passes to get over, this is where the Tuner and K&N comes in handy we will be pulling the Jeep.

Is your install using the factory air box for the filter? or does it come with a different air box? factory air box's can be somewhat restrictive in air flow.

So I have read the shifting changes are that the tran shifts more often and quicker during an uphill climb.
Is that correct!?

Come with new air box.. new box isn’t sealed on the top so I fabricated cover to keep out hot engine compartment air. The only part reused is the fresh air intake scoop.

No I have experience the opposite, witch is what is a plus it holds the shift pattern, eliminates high RPMs and shift frequencies, uses the HP like it should.

Ducks is correct. As an ASE Certified mechanic for GM, I can attest to sensor residue issues. However, like you, I also went with a 5-star tune (which is the difference maker, not that joke of an air cleaner). The real $$$ should be spent on the much-needed suspension mods it takes to make these RUV's safe, i.e. Hellwig, Sumo, Bilsteins, steering stabilizer, +5 Caster etc... And, in my case, I also added airbags in the rear, and new Goodyear Commercial rated sneakers all around. NOW, it's safe (and fun) to drive.

In the United States, in order for the manufacturer of a warranted product to void or deny warranty coverage of a repair due to the use of an aftermarket part, the manufacturer must provide proof that the aftermarket part is the cause of the necessary repair. These rights are protected under the Consumer Products Warranty Act of 1975 (also referred to as the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act).

The oil used in K&N air filters has been known to cause some sensor issues, but what I have experienced it's because the filter when cleaned has been over oiled. I have used K&N filters in plenty of our new cars without issue, but I also did not over saturate the filter with oil when cleaned. I still use one but it's on the race car so not really relevant in the case.
So when you clean your filter be careful with the oil and you will be fine.

Hardly worth the time and money and a pain in the ass to clean. In my younger days I have used a few but now days it is all about enjoying my motorhome and the small increase in performance is hardly worth the trouble. I like to be able to take out the paper filter and throw it in the garbage and not have to fool with the oil and cleaning of the K&N. I also like quiet and the K&N will definitely create more noise.
