Ladder screws

I have a 2016 Thor A.C.E 27.1. I noticed that some of the screws securing the ladder to the RV have stripped out or broken. How can I fix the screws that have stripped out. I've tried putting in longer/larger screws but there's nothing to screw into.

What I did for the bottom of the ladder support was take long deck wood screws and neatly screw them into each hole of the ladder using the existing holes in the fiberglass. Behind the fiberglass I mounted a 2 x 4 pressure treated piece of wood. I then continued with the deck wood screw right into the 2 x 4 on the other side of the fiberglass for a total of eight screws. This really made a solid connection. Easy to do, just have to get underneath the body and have someone hold the 2 x 4 while you screw it in from the other side, then paint the screws black or whatever color your ladder is.

Thanks for the info I'll have to crawl under there and see if I can get to the back of the fiberglass.

sometimes using a match, or a small wood 'splinter', can put enough 'extra' into the hole so that the screw has more to grip against... but, also, if you can access the rear of the fiberglass rear cap, you can do as said above, and add your own 'attachment point' for the screws - even a thin plywood piece would suffice.

You could fill the holes with epoxy, and then drill pilot holes and use a bi larger screw...
Good luck!

I have fixed several over the years on different equipment

To get something of substance I inject some PL8 into the hole, trying to get an ounce or so. I do it slowly and it stays at the opening as it is very thick and sticky. It is my go to adhesive for many RV repairs. Best product for all around use at the S&B and RV

After it has dried for a minimum of 4 hours or a day predrill and insert you screw

The material dries very hard and stays there for as long as you need it

I think you’re referring to “rivnuts”. They go in the hole like a rivet, but have screw threads in the middle.

I simply rotated the circular plate 45 degrees and screwed into a fresh portion of fiberglass. Used screws recovered from my collection of loose screws found in the motor home. 😎

I used the plastic drywall anchors, depending on the size of the screw hole they come in red , blue or green, I mix up a small amount of JB WELD place it around the anchors, set the screws back in , wait 24 hours for the JB WELD to set up and your all done
