Leaving propane tank on

Is there any issues leaving the propane tank on while the rv is not being used. It’s a ‘20 class c Thor outlaw.

We haven't shut the propane off on any of the MH's we have owned other than to fill the tank. I suppose it isn't a bad idea from a safety standpoint to leave it off during storage.

It is best to turn off your propane valves. If you leave your propane on and get a leak, you won't know about it. If a gas appliance gets bumped on somehow, you wouldn't know about that either. Fire or explosion hazard limited if tank closed.

My RV when not in use has fully stocked fridge, it is connected to power and the propane is on in case of power failure.
Most dealers require Propane off when in for service and of course when stored inside.

The only time I turn my propane off is when required by law.

Depends on your situation... like Hooligan2. However, if in winter storage, I always snug the valve closed. I use my home propane grill year-round, and always keep the valve closed when not grilling. Rubber hoses deteriorate... but don't leak if there's no propane in them. Just me, but I don't like the idea of "unattended" leaking propane...

So I’m thinking about it now. I guess it’s not too much different than your appliances at home. We don’t shut off the gas meter when we leave on vacation either. So as long as nothing is leaking it should be fine to leave the tank on.

I've had squirrels chew through my propane lines, so I always close the valve when I'm not using the RV.

Do you have issues with turning it off when the RV is not in use?

One issue I had was that I turned off the propane before winterizing, then I went out of town for a couple of weeks and it got below freezing and broke the tankless water heater. If the propane had been on the water heater's automatic freeze protection would probably have prevented the damage. As long as it's properly winterized, though, I can turn everything off and it's fine.

Purely situational.

Our fridge has only been off 3 times in 6 years for defrost. Unit always plugged in and rarely goes more than 2 weeks without use either trip or racing event. RV is fully stocked clothes and food for quick trip.

If fridge empty and unit was to sit idle no power, no reason not to shutoff propane.
