Lippert slide controller for bed

Today I tried to lower the front overhead bunk. The lippert controller part # 13398-DO , gave up in a puff of smoke. I was able to lower and raise the bunk using the one good side of the controller by alternating the motor wires from side to side and manually control the motors. I have not moved the bunk in more than a year! And, I doubt I have used the bunk more than a dozen times in the 4 years we have owned this 2017 Miramar 34.2. I don't want to replace one piece of garbage with another identical piece of garbage especially at a cost of $250 to $450.
Sooooo, I may try to install two separate manual switches
Up/down on each motor and ,(walk), the bunk up or down.
Any thoughts pro or con?

Not a problem to do this.
I wouldn't hesitate.
Use momentary rockers and you should be able to keep both sides even with very little practice.

Rheostats/dimmers might even be better.
