Question Lippert slide stuck? Start your engines ...

This has happened twice now although the first time we didn't realized what we did to fix it. One side of our Lippert slide in Thor Chateau Class C does not retract/extend after sitting in campground for a few days. We're plugged into shore power the entire time except at breakdown. Our final routine is usually: disconnect shore power, put in the slide, dump, and then raise jacks.

The "error" code on the controller blinks 8 times which indicates a short between the controller and the motor. We've reset the controller several times and confirmed the controller plugs are firmly in place. I also read somewhere that it could be related to a low amperage but our house batteries are in excellent shape.

Exhausted and frustrated we decided to start the engine. Boom, it works now. Can anyone explain this or is our rig haunted?

Your batteries are weak and don’t have enough juice to power the slide motors. Retract the slide before disconnecting shore power.

Also, replace your battery(ies).

You're lucky; our MH has an interlock which prevents slide movement with the engine running, but we have other ways to monitor our battery status.

Our will not work unless the engine is running - Aria -

I guess I'll keep the shore power or generator on when doing the slides. If the slides are powered by the chassis battery that's a stupid design IMO. The only battery that might be weak is the chassis battery. Enough to crank the engine but not enough for the slides?

The house battery bank shows 13.7v. Soooo, no I won't be replacing those batteries.

They don’t run off the chassis battery. Your engine is charging the house batteries while running.

I stand by by my earlier post. Your house batteries are not capable of running two slide motors regardless of what you meter is telling you.

And I stand by my earlier post. I've slid these slides in/out 50+ times over the past two years half of that time while boondocking (no shore power, no generator, no running engine) and the slides have worked fine? You can see my power config below 190w solar/240ah battery bank. I'm okay if you prove me wrong just looking for answer.

Maybe the vibration from starting/running the engine completed a bad connection.

Maybe you have the same interlock I do and it's hanging up but cycling the ignition switch got it going.
