Locked out

Was headed out to get new tires and started RV and went out to do one last walk around to make sure all was good to go. Some how the door wasn’t closed all the way but I couldn’t open the door. I pushed it closed all the way and now it was really locked with the engine running. Of course the door keys were on a key chain attached to the engine key. The wife brought the spare key from home...eventually. That took about 45 minutes with me standing out in the cold waiting. As you can guess this was a big learning curve and I have since made some new protocols regarding keys. My question is do others “hide” a key somewhere just in case another unfortunate circumstance arise?

At lest you worked your way out of it...

If I leave the rig: keys are in my pocket, and the Missus has her spares.
We also have hidden one set of coach keys in a miserable place outside the rig.

When I do my final checks and walk around, my wife is sitting inside just in case I get locked out. I usually have the keys inside my pocket.

That is one thing I love about most Ford's.... especially my F550 Super C Magnitude. Ford has a remote keypad on the drivers door so you can unlock the door with a PIN. As long as the chassis battery isn't dead, you can get into the coach without a key.

Glad you got in!! I keep just a compartment key zip tied to the inside of the chassis frame. It’s not so much hidden as it is awkward to get to. And then I keep a full set of extra keys to the RV and towed in my tool box. It’s not perfect but so far so good.

I keep a full set of keys including ignition switch hidden outside the coach that I can access.
I learned the hard way many years back after I left my keys for my fiver at a place over 300 miles away. Waiting on a locksmith in the sweltering Houston summer heat for over an hour wasn't fun.

So Bob...we see you hide a key in a "miserable place", right? First place I'd look is around the black tank drain? Same here as Judge...three doors and digital unlock has saved us more than once. Plus, I always carry the spares in my pocket...24/7.

I locked my keys in the coach engine running. Luckily I had the small storage door unlocked next to the main entry door and could reach in and unlock it.

I now keep my keys on a carabiner clip in my pocket. When I start the coach I take the ignition key off the clip and the other keys go back in my pocket.

Keeping a spare key hidden is also a good idea. I need to do that also.

With the cheap pot metal lock mechanisms these things have on them I leave the drivers slide window unlocked. Need a step ladder to get in but I’ll always be able to get in. We have a spare key but if the lock breaks that’s no help.

If you answered the Propane Tank door, you guessed correctly. This is an excellent compartment to hide you extra set of keys. Remember to always store extra engine, upper and lower lock to your main door.

Nothing like being hundreds of miles away, and going out to a restaurant, and when you get back to your RV park, you realize you lost your keys somewhere, Its usually late at night.

I just hide a door key. I have all other extra keys inside the mh

I have the key pad entry and compartment lock/unlock
To be on the safe side I still have an entrance key available in case batteries are down

When our RVlock fubared in our old vegas, I had to push mamma through my passenger side of the window! Wish I would of filmed!

After that, in our new rig that I can't get a RVLock for , I drilled hole n propane tank brace and installed a lock box.

I leave both driver and passenger sliding windows on our Challenger unlocked just in case. Not sure if my fat ass will get thru that window if I ever have to anyway, but it would be fun to watch. I guess I could always bribe a kid to get in there if I had to...[emoji38]

n our Challenger 37ND we always had the bathroom escape window open for air ventilation when stopped. If we got locked out this window would have been a larger opening than the driver's or passenger's sliding windows.

During our PDI at MHS the tech and all of us went outside and the master lock engaged and the tech freaked out. I had the spare keys in my pocket!! Now I never ever ever leave the MH without my keys in my pocket..even if I get out to fill the gas the my wife is in the MH..i take a spare just in case she leaves... I always shut off the motor and take the keys are at times 2 pairs!! It would destroy me if I could no get in our MH

I keep a spare set of all coach and towed keys in one of the basement storage compartments and have a compartment key zip tied to the undercarriage. I’d have to get my clothes dirty to get to it but it keeps me from getting stranded for want of a key. Even if I lose them to a mugger after dinner at a restaurant!

If you lose your keys to a mugger: you'll probably bet getting kind of dirty during the wrestling match anyway...
