Loud A/C

New to RVing, went on our first local trip to test out the whole plug in process. All went well, but the AC is so loud, we had to shut it off, just couldn't sleep with it above our bed. Is this normal? Thinking of getting a small table fan to use at nite?? It is a Dometic-normal for this manufacturer? Thanks.

I cannot say for sure that this is your problem...but you might check. A number of years ago on another motorhome, our a/c unit made all kinds of noise..sounded like it was coming apart...Ron got up on the roof, removed the cover to find a huge mud dauber/wasp nest in the fan...nest removed, problem solved.
In addition, if you find this problem...anywhere, go to a local farm supply store and purchase a bag of Cattle Ear Tags which are bug resistant...hand one or two in each vent and you will not have wasp problems.
This idea was passed along to us by a CW salesman several yrs ago when we took delivery of a m/h.

Hope your problem is solved !

Some RV A/C units have two fan speeds (high, and low)--ours does. If yours does try the "low" setting--it does make the unit a bit quieter..not whisper quiet but somewhat quieter (and less shop-vac like).

We do exactly what Jamie suggested. It does decrease the roar, but only a little. We got used to the sound. With the 15K optional A/C we see no difference in how cool the coach stays at the lower speed.

DonnaF, do you have 2 a/c units? if so I usually just use the front one at night and have very little sound..
