Maintenance Checklist

We just got our first RV and we have been told many times “Maintenance is the key to reducing our chances of things going wrong.” I asked the dealer for a list of things to do and he mentioned a couple of things but they didn’t really go into detail. I am pretty anal about things and I would like to create checklists of things I need to do. My thought is to create a checklist to use each Trip, every Monthly every six months and every year. I have started to pull from various sources online but I would also like to ask each of you your input and/or to see what you use to do and track your maintenance.

I live in Florida and we use our RV year round so I am not concerned with winterizing. I will be happy to share the checklists once done.

Thanks in advance.

Search for the Thor Vegas Axis manual by Ed Felker. Lots of good info there even though it is not your type of RV. I have a Windsport 29M and I have used this manual. You can also use a smartphone. Thor has an app but I have not used it.

I haven't checked in a while but there used to be at least a dozen rv checklist apps for Android.
The idea would be to download one of the lists and then customize by adding and subtracting to fit your needs.

As an example :
We don't have pets so I don't need the 12 checks for pet and supplies.
I don't have a towed vehicle so I don't need those 8 checks.
But
We carry ryobi flashlight and drill and compressor so we need to check the ryobi battery count before leaving.
We have 4wd so we need to check the lever position of 2wd high vs 4wd drive high
We need to check the hubs are unlocked.

We have a checklist. It's rv checklist on Android playstore. It has 4 long complete lists pre-made and completely editable. Departure, arrival, storage and pdi.

By our fourth trip it turned into a walk around and the list isn't used.

We don't have anything written down...
But it's not as if we haven't been bit on the bottom for that lack of diligence!

1Minute Checklist

Are we suppose to check something special before trips with our RV

1. I figure if engine starts I am pretty much good to go.
2. I look to ensure no flat. I have gauge to check air pressure but half time I left air out trying to get a reading thus making it worse.
3. Verify shore power is unplugged
4. Fresh water full, propane is full, gray empty, black empty
5. Beer in the fridge and that it is cold

... Get the spare set of keys and then I am on my way.

I think I will check into the RV Checklist for Android

I have used the RV checklist for Android. Good app. You can even create your own lists for things like winterizing, etc. No longer have an android phone so can’t use it. Haven’t found one for the iPhone I like.

Do you know how many posts/threads on this forum alone have to do with people trying to do preventive maintenance and breaking stuff? I'll bet there's at least a half dozen posts just this year about people wanting help because they removed or replaced their batteries and didn't know how to hook them back up correctly.

Sometimes "preventive maintenance" creates problems that didn't previously exist.

Well...
You should always be aware of your personal mechanical limitations.
In my case; I know to wipe the screwdriver off: after sticking it in my nose!

Hey now that is a thought I never tried drinking my screwdriver through my nose
