Melted storage bays 2021 Miramar 35.2

Our first long trip in our new Miramar and we are stranded. It seems Thor neglected to install one of the heat shields and heat from the exhaust melted 2 large holes in two of our storage bays. Plus the chassis had a recall and my check engine light started flashing.

So I took it to Montrose, CO. The Ford dealer fixed the recall and replaced the spark plug wires. The RV dealer took pictures of the damage and submitted them to Thor. Thor has authorized the repair. Thor told me that the dealership hasn't ordered the parts. I called the dealership. The girl who handles warranties said Thor sent them blueprints but the dealership has not been able to identify the parts needed.

Does anyone know what parts are needed to replace the storage bins?

But you should be able to close them up with some tin, and pop rivets. At least you can then keep using your Rv...

You could do a "hillbilly repair" with some heavy mil poly sheeting and a roll of black Gorilla tape.

As Bob and the Chateau said I would pick up some light aluminum sheet at the hardware and some Gorilla tape so you can continue to use the MH. The dealer needs to get off the dime and get your heat shields ordered.

Thanks for all of the advice. I should say we are full time so we aren't really stranded. I'm "stranded" until the parts come in.

I have to say I'm pretty impressed. Thor customer service saw my post and reached out to me. Nice job Thor!

Nice to see you come back and hand out the credits. I see/read Thor taking a lot of abuse and some things are deserved, but I have yet to EVER read where Thor or any RV Mfg did not take care of a legitimate warranty issue.

Curious about one thing though. You said it was your first long trip? How many miles are on the coach? Wonder why that failure didn't occur when being driven Indiana to Dealer? or did it and Dealer improperly fix? I don't have any faith of confidence in any Thor Dealer that I have worked with.

Idiots! So lucky your coach didn't turn into a screaming ball of fire on the highway. Have a garage or rv repair place install a heat shield made from sheet metal and rigged into place, keep the receipt. Use your RV until you and Thor or the dealer you choose is ready to fix it when they have parts and time and you're ready.

Making some progress

I have to say I've been very impressed with Thor's customer service. They quickly authorized the repairs and the parts are on order. So far though, no one can tell me, even approximately, how long it will take to receive the parts.

We just committed to staying another month at Meadows of San Juan Resort. The resort staff and owners have been great and the summer weather has been fairly pleasant.

That is because THOR or any RV manufacture stocks spare parts. They are ordered form the manufacture that supplies them. The order is in and will be filled in the same order as received. They may not even be in production and you wait until the factory starts to do so. A few days maybe or like my compartment door for my old fifth wheel, ninety days, then a week to ship.
