Mold under decals

Is anyone else having what I assume to be a mold issue creeping under the edges of the decals?
I keep my motorhome under an RV port. I wash it probably 6-8 times a year with a good quality wash/wax solution and wax the unit at least 4 times a year. The finish on my ACE 30.3 looks like the day I drove it off the lot, but now the decals are starting to get this black crud under the edges and I haven’t found a solution yet to fix it. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I would like to stop it before it gets any worse.
Thanks,

Steven B.

I don't have a solution but I have seen it. I don't think its mold; I think its just dirt picked up by the adhesive. The decals pull away slightly and the adhesive behind them retains any dirt it comes in contact with.

I have to agree with Jamie. Is it all the decals and all colors on the whole rig?
I think I would prep current decal Edges with Acetone. Find a 1/4 inch solid pinstripe roll that matches the rig or highlights it. I would add the pinstripe centered in current edge using that as a guide. You will be back to factory look for $40.00? I would not re decal entire rig.
If you do not feel comfortable with that. I would first pull up to your local bodyshop they see this all the time. They have pin-striping decal guys on call that would give you a few good ideas. Good Luck Rev.

Hey Jamie, I was just thinking mold because of where I live and second, I keep my MH spotless at all times. The decals seem firmly attached at the edges? I’ve ran my fingernail along the edge of the decals and there appears to be no gaps.
Very puzzling? It is only noticeable on the white & tan colored decals, but probably happening on the dark ones as well? I will continue to monitor the decals and hope someone has a simple solution.
Thanks for your response.

Acetone is harsh stuff and will remove paint. Use GooGone.

Use Acetone on Gelcoat for years no issues. I guess still old school that's all we had removing road tar on cars etc. I have not used the newer products..Goo-Gone Goof-Off Goo-Goo or Goo Goo GaGa... always test a spot closest to your dump valves, a place where nobody stares at for a long time.

You say you wax the rig about 4 times a year. If you are waxing over the decals, I would bet what you are seeing is caused by the wax on the very edge of the decals.

I was going to mention this too - about NOT waxing the decals. It think some members use 303 on the decals to help minimize fading over time.

Try rubbing alcohol first around the edges. Perhaps even some mild bathroom clean for mold and mildew to see what it does? Then DONT wax the details (or if you do - no more than once a year) and keep wax from the edges of decals and use some 303 protectant.

I like some of the ideas mention above too!

Let use know what you figure out so we can helps others down the road.
