Hmmm I should use a power strip when I plug into my 15 amp outlet in the garage to save the contacts on my cords? I never really worried about that little pop but I assume a power strip is rated for switching under load?

According to Thor, you should turn off your main power breaker in the coach breaker panel before plugging in. With a garage outlet for 30 amp there should be a separate breaker in your home breaker panel that you can turn off also prior to plugging in.

It's a shared 15 amp that I use just to keep batteries happy and run the fridge. Running to the basement or under the bed in the RV sounds like a PIA. A power strip sounds much easier.

I was answering the initial post. Yes, I would use a switchable power strip!

throw the power strip away. Too many loose connections. it will protect nothing and cause more problems.

skip the power strip. It will cause more trouble.

I would say try a kill a watt in line. turn off the pedestal power and plug in the kill a watt then plug in the RV. Turn on the pedestal power and see how much draw you have on the meter. Turn of the breakers one by one until the meter reads about zero, that will be the load you are getting. It will be easier to track down from that point

Yes, if you don’t turn the breaker off at the pedestal, you may draw an arc when you plug it in.

Your 110 will do this in the house too. Don't hesitate, stick the plug right in there so there and don't allow a gap between connectors any longer than you have to. If you can, turn off the breaker and then plug in. It's normal that electricity will try to jump a gap.
