How long should the awning last

I have had our VEGAS 25.2 for four years and noticed some small pin holes in the awning right at the coach. I need to work to remove some stains on the underneath of the fabric, but hate to put lots of effort in if I am going to have to replace it..

I just didn't have any idea the general "expected life" of the awning material, and didn't want to wait for it to fail when I am on the road..

Any help would be appreciated!

Depends if you have a cover for your patio awning. White uncovered awnings will last maybe 5 year if stored outside in the south. If you have an awing cover (usually optional), the fabric will last 15 years or more. Just like windshield wiper blades and tires, ozone (pollution), sunshine and heat cause the vinyl/acrylic to deteriorate. If you decide to replace the fabric, use the Sunbrella (trade name) fabric. Cheap fabrics have little UV protection, as good UV protectants are expensive.

We don't put our awning in the rain. If it does get wet: we make every attempt to get some sunshine on it, to heat it up, and get it good and dry.
We also don't cook with our griddle underneath it. No smoke and grease on it!
We figure that it should outlast us!

Small pin holes are common

If you use your awning daily it is worth treating with 303 or a similar product

As Bob noted it is like most things the user determines the useful life

Ours is 5 years old. It started having minor issues last year. We were in NC in late fall snowstorm and it had ice buildup between layers. I will be changing it soon ahaed of winter series races. We got a replacement from Amazon for $165. Our awning gets a lot of use here in Florida. If we get caught in rain I will dry out at first chance.
