Chassis A/C system explodes. Has this happened to you

Heading back to Western New York State from Florida. I was rolling in rest area parking lot when I hear a bang, followed by what sounds like a release of high pressure gas then I see a cloud of smoke. This is at right front of coach. Did I blow a tire? Did the battery blow? Nope. A/C system ruptured. Green A/C oil all over the place. No funny noises, gauges look good. Nothing dripping. 1100 miles until home. 7360 miles on coach. 16 months old. Hope the Ford warranty covers it. Thankful I am still rolling.

The F-53 A/C compressor is Ford. Everything else is vendor sourced by Thor.

Follow the dye,if road debris punctures the condenser you are out of luck ceptt maybe insurance will cover it.ive even seen bird or animal strikes cause a leak.if cooling fan quit pressure could have spiked and caused a blowout but the hpco switch should have cut off the compressor. There's also a pressure relief valve on the compressor that could have opened if sudden high pressure was experienced.blacklight and yellow glasses will tell all.

Thanks. Hopefully it wil be something simple and not too labor intensive. I don't think it is a road debris issue. I was parked with the engine running for a few minutes just before it blew. Pressure must have built for some reason. Engine temp was OK.

Finally got time to take a good look. It appears the output hose from the compressor ruptured. Looks like it may have been a bad crimp on the hose. I will call the local Ford Truck service center Monday and schedule it.

I called Ford to make a service appointment and look at A/C. Ford service writer says it may be a Thor part. My appointment is for July 25th. I called Thor today and was advised by Douglas that it is Ford’s responsibility. I will keep you advised.

Took the Windsport to Ford yesterday to look at the A/C. They said they would cover it under warranty. They ordered the part and fixed it today. They also replaced the compressor. She blew nice cold air on the way home. So far so good. They did not replace the dryer.
