No Vent Air

I am not getting any air out of the cap vent when I have the dial turned to vent. I use to get lots of air! I have the dash all taken apart right now and all of the vent hosing seems to be connected. When I turn on the fan it makes noise but no air out of the vent. I can see where the fan is attached to a black box but am not for sure how to get into it or what to look for. All of the wires are attached on the back of the vent dial switch. Any ideas.

I agree with this gentlemen a little more information is required to help you diagnose.

My GUESS and purely a guess is that you have an electrical servo ( think motorized door ) that is either defective or not getting any juice to allow it to open to the vent position.

Good question because if it is then the first reply is probably correct. In my Axis the server and door that it closed to shift the air from the cab to the defrosters was located on the left wall underneath the passengers feet. While I agree that a fix is probably a professional’s job, I was traveling to Alaska and didn’t have access to a garage and really wanted heat in the cab. I went into the box, disconnected the server, moved the door and had heat and no defrost.

As I remember it does. I have it in storage and can't go out and double check that! If it does that would mean the servo is bad or disconnected either physically or electrically.

Back around 2014 Thor had a mandatory recall for this issue - the servo motors went bad and they were required to recall a bunch of Axis and Vegas because it was determined that it could cause an accident if the defroster malfunctioned. My Vegas was not on the recall list, but the same exact problem happened to me and Thor refused to fix it. The safety board determined it was too dangerous for Thor not to recall them, but Thor determined it was not too dangerous not to fix mine. After the warranty period, Thor will only fix what the gov’t requires them to fix. I wrote the safety board and the President of Thor and got nothing.

Two diagnostic tools all RV owners need are 1) a 12V test light used to check for power at motors, switches, fuses etc. 2) The other item is a Multi meter used to check 12 and 120 volt circuits.
Me, I would chase this with a test light. Not trying to sound condescending but do you know how to use a 12V test light? Test light is grounded on the one end and the probe end is sharpened To either pierce into a wire or the back of harness plugs looking for power, bulb lights up on a hot lead.
If I were chasing this down I would start at the dash switch.Turn ignition switch to run. Check you light is grounded on a known good circuit then start with is there power to the vent/ac/heat/defrost switch?No power to the switch check fuse upstream from the switch, may be inline or in the fuse block. If power comes in to the switch does it pass through? If it comes out of the switch does it make it to the servo motor? If it makes it to servo motor than you can be pretty sure the motor is bad. Or something is jamming the door.

It depends on your rig, but on most you have a fan inside of a black plastic box. There are one or two small electric motors that will be under the dash, connected to the hose system. These move a flap that changes your air circulation. If you look under the dash while you (or your helper) change the HVAC settings you should see and/or hear the small motors turn the air regulator flaps. On my rig you can see the control arms move. Check to see if these are working. If you have moving air from the vents with the AC on, but not with vent only, that is the most likely culprit.

My 2011 Hurricane uses vacuum to move the actuators. Once, a vacuum hose up by the coach battery melted from battery acid and caused the defrost to be on all the time.

I have a 2013 windsport (which is similar to a hurricane) and had no air heat or ac come from any dash vent except the defrost vents.... this is call the emergency default position.
If this is your case check what looks like wires but are actually vacuum hoses.
If any of them leak or are not connected your system will fail over to defrost only.( emergency default position)
We had a mouse chew a hose and we were in this state but I traced the hoses from the dash select switch to their respective vacuum solenoid and found the white hose eaten away.
I cut out the bad piece out and re attached the hose to its respective solenoid and everything came back up no issues.
If you have your dash apart there should be a bundle of vacuum hoses coiled up mid passenger side inside the dash then going every place under over through all the other hoses wires etc.
All it takes is a small leak and it’s game over.
Good luck finding the problem but the dealer will charge you a fortune to fixit.
