Norcold Fridge door fell off

The 6 and 8 c.f. Norcold fridge doors are hinged by a plastic hinges molded into the door frame. If one loads the door trays with jars and other heavier items the bottom hinge (which carries the load) may break away leaving one holding the door (literally). It can be temporarily repaired with epoxy and installing a 2" machine screw at the break to hold the parts together, but a new door is required. The hinge itself is not replaceable; you gotta shell out >$100 for a new door!

It's best to avoid this problem by not loading the fridge door AND install a Norcold 634166 Door Hinge Kit (works with either side door opening), about $20 on Amazon. The kit reinforces the vulnerable hinge and should prevent a failure. (Even though the instructions don’t indicate, a little bracket adjustment is required to allow the freezer and fridge doors to open without rubbing. Not difficult.)

BTW, Amazon also carries replacement doors, a life saver when you're on the road. YouTube videos show how to remove the panel insert from the old door and insert it in the new.

I hung towels over the opening while waiting for the fast-cure epoxy to set up and carefully hung the repaired door with no shelves installed. I had the door off about 30 minutes, including time to determine a temporary fix.

One has to be creative in these emergencies!

When the new door arrived two days later at our next stop, I embraced it!

When our fridge stopped working altogether half way through a month long snowbird trip to Florida last year we were caught in a slow warranty process that prevented repair until we got home. We bought 3 or 4 styrofoam coolers at Walmart and went for ice every day. We adapted.
