Thor Four Winds Majestic general maintenance

Hi guys,

-My 2001 Four Winds Majestic needs to have an oil changed. What do you guys recommend? Synthetic or Mineral oil? At how many miles should I change it again?

I have the engine maintenance light went off. Does Is it something that I can reset myself after changing oil or Shall I have it checked?

Thank you

If the check engine light is on have it checked ASAP! Could be something as minor as a loose/faulty gas cap to something much more serious.
As for oil change intervals & oil type, what does the chassis manufacturer recommend? Whatever that is is what I'd do.
Quite honestly never heard of using mineral oil in an engine???
Myself, unless the manufacturer recommended synthetic oil, I couldn't tell much difference other than it cost more, no noticeable improvement in mileage or performance. Also if you read closely you should not extend oil change intervals when using synthetic oils.

My best advice, the advice I'd give to my dearest friend, based on your questions.
Find a mechanic your friends like and trust.
Have him do the requirements on a schedule he suggests.

Oil change interval is a religion and those responding later in this thread with exact numbers and intervals are often zealots.
It took years and years and years to disprove the advertising campaign horsecrap of 3,000 mile oil changes.
Some still revere this falsity.

Find a good person locally and follow their recommendations.
Today.

Mineral oil is what you put on babies.
I figured your meaning easily enough... I hope.
Truthfully I'm not sure what dinosaur oil is called now.
There's synthetic and blend, but what's just Dino oil called?

FWIW, I change my V10’s oil annually in the fall. I use Mobil 1 synthetic which frequently is on sale for less than regular oil. If we travel a lot in the winter I’ll sometimes change it again in the spring. (I sort of figure about 5,000 miles is enough). I do it myself so it only costs about $40 and takes about 45 minutes including front end lube.

Dino oil would be called conventional oil, made from petroleum where synthetic is made from natural gas and synthetic oils will not break down and turn black like dino oil will.

I use synthetic in all my gas powered engines, I did try it in my motorhome with a diesel and they maintance light for oil change came on within a 1000 miles so i drained it out and went back to rotella 15w40 and change oil around 6000 miles.

Your maintance light probably came on because you reached the mile interval the factory set it at, or it didnt get reset on last oil change, your owners manual should tell you how to reset the oil change light
