Wow! 5w-20 seems like can awful light weight oil for such a big motor building the kind of heat it must make hid under a motorhome, I would've thought 5w or 10w-30 or 5w-40, but I'm no mechanic unless it's under a shade tree.

I had my first oil change done at a little over 1000 miles. Would have went a little longer than that but we were preparing for a trip out west and back that would add another 4000 plus miles and have always preferred doing oil changes sooner vs later; especially on the initial oil change.

With just a little over 5500 miles I just scheduled our next oil change for next week when it's at the dealer getting the Ford recall done. They charge about $65 for the oil change and after years of doing my own oil changes I've found it's worth it to not deal with the mess and aggravation.

I could be wrong but I think Ford has changed their recommendations to 5W-30 now, that's what I put in mine. I think the 5W-20 was for economy.

Yes, I think all of the 2017s call for 5w30. My dealer was surprised when I mentioned it to him. Actually I think he didn't believe me. He said they always use 5w20 but then defaulted to the corporate line: "do what your owners manual says". I waited until we got to 5000 miles then did it myself. FWIW, it is far and away the easiest oil change I've ever done - easy access (ground clearance) and the filter is on the bottom of the block hanging straight down next to the oil pan. Slide a grocery bag over it and you won't spill a drop.

If you add a Fomoto valve oil changes are even easier. I loosen the oil filter slightly and then use a 32 oz styrofoam cup to unscrew it, the cup catches the oil and insulates your hand from a hot filter.

Hey that's a great idea about using a big styrofoam cup. I'll have to go find a couple of 'em!
