Oil change questions
When did you perform your first oil change in your MH? I've had my Axis for 4 months and it has just under 4000 miles.
I will be leaving for a 3 month trip in 2 weeks and was wondering if I should change the oil before I go?
I have a friend who offered to do it for me if I buy the oil and the filter!
Should I go ahead and do the oil change now or wait until the recommended 6 months or 7500 miles?
If I do it now can someone tell me what weight oil and how many quarts I should buy? Also what filter would I need?
I would check this for myself, but I'm out of town and don't have access to my MH.
He's planning on doing the work tomorrow.
Thanks

I would recommend yes get it changed: You have a new coach and you are about to embark on a long trip (one that if you didn't get the oil changed you would have to somewhere mid-trip).
Rather have someone you know change it instead.

I did my first oil change at 3,000 (break in period). First Change is the most important. I used synthetic which extends time/mileage. I also change oil when winterizing so clean oil sits in the pan.

Ford manual says 5w-30 (so does the web site) of synthetic blend or full synthetic. (Some oil caps on the Ford engines say 5w-20). I think it takes 6 quarts, but the manual you got from Ford will tell you.

My first oil change was right after I picked unit up. Had less than 2000 miles, but chassis was together a long time. I did it myself, easy with PVC spout extension I made.
I go 2500 to 3500 between changes now as I usually tow my racecar trailer and Motorcraft Synthetic blend is cheap. I got stuff from local Walmart.
Mine uses 5W-20, 6 quarts. I use the Motorcraft filter too.
I have not had to add oil between changes and have over 10,000 miles now.

Thanks everyone! Sorry I couldn't check the manual. I'm trying to get the information to my friend! He offered to get it for me as well as do the work!
I'm blessed to have such a good friend!

To make future oil changes easier I would suggest replacing the stock drain plug with a Fomoto valve. Here is a link for Amazon and a picture.
https://www.amazon.com/Fumoto-F-106N...to+drain+valve
The picture shows the optional safety clip but it's not necessary.

You are very welcome! Like everyone else I would change oil before the trip, then no worries on the trip!

There is a newer version of this valve that allows you to position the valve lever wherever you want instead of just where it ends up when you screw it in. It's only a few dollars more.

Just ordered the update with hose and rubber piece to secure from opening accidentally.

Try this:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HP5V092
In any case the one that fits the Ford 10 cylinder engine is the Fumoto F106SX M14 x 1.5

Ford manual on my 2015 Vegas with Ford 350 recommends oil & filter change every 7500 miles or six months whichever comes first.
Oil specified is either SAE 5W-20 Premium Synthetic Blend or 5W-20 Full Synthetic or SAE 5W-20 Super Premium or 5W-20 Synthetic.
Capacity is 6.0 quarts.

I think that is a great idea but, I've looked at three valves like mine that were already installed and the nipple was pointing down on all of them. I did put a vinyl cap on mine to keep crud out.

Did you need to take it to dealership for oil change or did you go to a cheaper place? I dont want to void warranty. Thank you

It will not affect your warrantee if you take it somewhere else than the dealer. Just make sure they use the correct oil and filter and keep records.

Did it myself, used Mobil 1 5W-30 Extended Performance oil. First oil change was a little messy, had to use a funnel because the oil drain is above the I-beam.
