Oil Weight

Thor Ace 27.2 2018, my manual list both 5w20 and 5w30. The oil cap says 5w30. Since I live in Texas I use the 5w30. Not sure if there is enough of a big difference between the 2.

I know this is an old thread but I normally would change my own oil and use 5w-30. This week I had my 2019 Thor Ace 29.3 at the Ford truck dealer for other service so I had them do the oil change. When I came home and checked the bill I was surprised they used 5w-20 oil.

My manual does say to use 5w-20 and 5w-30 is optional.

My next change I plan to use 5w-30 again. My fault for not telling them up front to use 5w-30.

Ford used to recommend 5w30 for the V10 but changed the recommendation to the lighter weight a few years ago. I use 5w20 exclusively now. FWIW.

Thanks for your reply. I guess either one will work fine. If Ford recommends it must be ok.

I use peanut oil...
It makes my deep-fried frankfurters taste better!

I prefer Planters 5w-30 but that choice could be controversial.

FWIW..... several manufacturers moved from 5W-30 to 5W-20 as they tried to find ways to meet the lovel EPA fuel mileage requirements. They have used evcery combination possible to help reduce fuel consumption. The engine works every so slightly easier to pump the oil through the engine. Then couple oil viscosity with weight reductions, reprogrammed ECU's to change timing and fuel delivery and it all becomes part of the equation to meet fuel economy standards.

I think my next oil change I will go back to 5w-30. I will give up a little fuel mileage.
