Onan Generator stops running

After running for 7 hour the generator shuts down. Then will run for a few minutes each time you restart it. We have gas in the tank, never less than 1/2 tank. It has oil, air filter is clean, generator has 280hrs on it.

We are on a road trip and the kids are sweating their butts off. Any body having this issue??

I also looked underneath for any blockage to the air intake and its clear.

They only time I had a problem similar was on trip through the desert and it would turn off at the breaker on the generator. It turns out it was just too hot. On long trips what we have done since then is let it take a break for about 30 mins while we are cruising and haven’t had that issue since.

some Onan generators, gas models especially, have issue with running too hot, when you are running them for long periods WHEN it's hot... sorry.

I had an issue with the gas Onan on a previous RV shutting down when hot. It would run for up to 30 minutes before shutting down. This was caused by a failing fuel pump. Replacing the fuel pump resolved the problem.
