Onan LP generator

Hello, my onan 3600 generator starts and runs until you release the start button. Or for about 15 seconds which ever comes first. Oli level is good. Also don’t know if this particular gen show error codes or not but not getting blinking lights.

Just found out from Onen that my gen doesn’t have a pressure switch so that is not the problem. Has 3/4 tank propane so that is not the problem. But it should be showing error codes but is not. Honestly acts a gas motor running out of fuel. What could cause that with propane?

Do all other propane appliances work? Stove, hot water heater. Close the tank valve, then open it again. Your regulator may also need adjusted... some are adjustable for flow rate/pressure.

Yes other stuff works. Have opened and closed valve multiple times. Thanks for the ideas though. Guess I will take it somewhere to be looked at.

Propane generators, like most remote propane appliances, have a solenoid operated valve to open and close and allow the propane to flow. The "Start" signal opens that valve while starting but then it needs a "running" signal from the controller to continue running. Since it starts but then shuts off after a few seconds I'd be looking at that solenoid to see if it is closing and causing the shutdown: if so, find out why it is not getting the "run" signal.

Thank you for that. I will see if I can tell if it is working. Sure sounds like that could be it. Will try to find out tomorrow. Thanks again.
