Onan RV QG 4000

Driving in rain, generator running, then stopped running and won’t restart. Cranks but won’t start. Have 3/4 tank of gas.

On the road and using generator to run oxygen concentrator. Need help fast or will have to go to hotel.

Thanks

Perhaps driving the RV at high speed on dry roads will eliminate water that might be causing the problem.

If it cranks over but won't start, I don't think the circuit breakers either in the MH or the one on the genny itself would be the problem.
I would try to start the genny outside at unit itself. Prime it and see if you can hear the pump if not that may be the issue. Or do you have a heavy smell of fuel? Perhaps the genny is flooded.

Sounds like you have all the obvious bases covered. Most likely something in the generator control or ignition circuitry has gotten wet and needs to dry out.

You didn't say what RV you have but for future reference the oxygen concentrator should be able to run off an inverter so you wouldn't need to run the generator.. In fact, if you have an RV with a residential fridge you may already have an inverter installed - it doesn't power all the 120 VAC outlets, but there should be one you can plug the concentrator in to.

Just possible that with the wet weather something in the ignition is shorting. If you look at the attached pix (rotate it right) you will see a black spot on the intake manifold after the carburetor. The connector on the red wire was shorting when it got wet and would not let the GEN start or would quit after running a bit. A zip tie took care of the problem.

Remember, fuel, air, spark. Pull the plug wire, crank the genny and check for spark. It's easy enough to check the air filter. It is possible your fuel pump has failed. Pull the fuel line from the carburetor and prime the generator. If fuel flow is minimal or non existent, replace the pump and filter as a unit.
