Onan spark arrestor

Serviced my generator today and noticed that I’m supposed to clean the spark arrestor every 50 hours. I’m about 100 hours overdue! There’s a square head bolt/plug in the exhaust that needs to be removed and it wouldn’t budge with my Crescent wrench. Needs a proper tool but I didn’t measure it and now the coach is back in storage and I want to order a suitable 8point socket. Does anybody know the size? Thanks

It probably is a 3/8" pipe plug (square head pipe plug). Since it is brass, you will probably round it if you use a 1/2" open end wrench. Amazon sells pipe plug sockets.

Yup, that’s the one. I was fearful of rounding it with my adjustable and figured it was good and stuck. Thanks.

Get some Blaster PB Penetrating lub.

Spray and let it work for a while, should come right out.
Most auto supply, WalMart have it or Amazon.

^^^Ditto^^^on this method. After it has sat for a while soaking, give it one reasonably good smack, straight downward on top of the bolt with a light hammer.

yep, don't use an open end wrench on it....Mine is a bit rounded I'm sad to say... and I gave up before ever getting the thing off.
I can't say I knew about a special socket for it.

Appreciate all the advice. I measured it today and it appears to need a 7/16 inch 8 point socket. $6 on amazon.
