The photos show the genset exhaust pipe hanger from my 2015 Hurricane. The rubber has broken on one side and isn't in good shape on the other. This is the second motorhome that I've had failure of this part. On our 2005 Phaeton, the rubber isolator failed completely and dropped the pipe to the road, damaging the muffler on the genset.
This part costs less than $12.00 on Amazon. I'd suggest looking at the bracket should be included in everybody's maintenance checks.
I just replaced both of them on my generator about a week ago,went to napa and got universal exhaust hangers and clamps as they are a little thicker than the factory ones.
Yup - these can be an issue. When installing, the hanger should support the pipe, and not "lift" the pipe into position which, if lifted with too much force, then the stress will break the rubber. If you can convert to a replaceable isolator style, then these have a more robust connection point. If all else fails, use two hangers (good quality name brand is helpful) side by side.
Thank you. I replaced this morning with an automotive muffler hanger. This is a little more robust, however, the 1.5 dia generator exhaust tube required some washers under the nut.
i fitted the clamp around the exhaust tube and did not load the hanger when securing to the RV.
What about this a stainless self tapping hex head screw to hold it above (it's only the mount not the rod coming out of it), the rod is on the part that holds the pipe.
If it was me I would use the rod that came with the mount and weld it to a muffler clamp of the right size, I wouldn't think this would ever go bad. spray everything with high temp paint so it doesn't rust. Heck the original clamp could be welded to the rod just bend an L on the end of the rod
Thing is, i have to match the attaching bracket with mounting holes up in the RV. This exhaust hanger matches those holes. I understand this isn't the ONAN part of the equation. There system ends at the exhaust stack, the exhaust tube is THOR.
I didn't think this was under vibration, but since its at the back end of the RV, it gets all the bouncing from bumps, start and stop vibration for the Generator.
I will check periodically and report back. Otherwise this RV has been trouble. free. The picture below is my first attempt at fixing this problem. It only lasted a few months.

It is a fairly common failure on any exhaust system with a rubber hanger in close proximity to the hot exhaust pipe. If it fails again, I would try to find something like Bill posted with the rubber grommet up by the frame.
Inspecting under my RV over a year ago, I noticed the generator exhaust touching and melting into the sewer dump pipe that went over the gen's exhaust.
I ended up taking a coat hanger as bailing wire to help hold the black pipe a little higher. I inspect this often, the hanger like described here is still good at this time.
It pays to get under there and have a look see from time to time because I have thwarted other potential problems before.
That was the first installation, the muffler hanger broke free again. This is my last attempt, i used a vertical hanger with a much thicker material. This is now a firm installation with minimal vibration through the Generator muffler.
A key is, alignment of the system. Heavier hangers can be found and installed but, remember, that may put stress on exhaust pipes and connections at the engine.
