Outrageous Pricing

Why have Onan oil filters like part 0122-0836 become so expensive? Are the cheaper "no name" filters acceptable? They must be at least 4 5/8" tall to allow proper fit into and out of the the recessed attachment point. Onan wants $20 or more per filter. Outrageous!

Same goes for John Deere filters. A Wix replacement is less expensive and a better filter.

Outrageous princing is indeed out of control.
Harry is no prince. A veritable clone of his mom's bodyguard and a total goof, it's just outrageous!

Pricing?
Not princing?

Never mind.

Signed,
Emily Latella.

p.s.
aftermarket filters are ok.
Now price an onan air filter vs aftermarket. 4 times the price for onan...same box.

It's Outrageous dicing!
Brunoise and chiffanade are destroying society as we know it!

I've been getting John Deere filters cheaper than aftermarket lately on amazon. Yanmar engine in a 2520.
(Gator and the two 160h3's are gone. Only one Deere here).

To get this back on topic, yes you can use after market filters that meet Onan’s specifications.

I usualy will find the OEM Oil & Air filter and on ebay or Amazon for well under that $20. But I don't shop when my demand is now. I let the search pop up and when I see a good deal, I buy. Result I always have then in stock so I can change my oil when ever the weather is right and I feel like it. I try to do when my son is around for training.

With that said.

Anybody got handy the Wix or NAPA part numbers for the Onan 5500?

This site made me a coward to do anything but OEM parts based on all of the negative talk about the Green Monster. I use same oil that goes in V10 and I chnage with hours or 12 months whichever comes first.

I use WIX filters on everything except the big outboards. Onan doesn't make filters...most companies don't. They are all outsourced. NAPA is a great example...NAPA Gold filters are made for them by WIX.

I have found you can trust the parts you get at NAPA. Even through they may cost a little more than the low cost auto parts stores they have a large customer base of professional mechanics who don't like call backs because of poor quality replacement parts.

Two days ago I had to replace the 12 volt battery in my wife's 2015 Ford Cmax. This is a hybrid vehicle with a 12 volt battery and a 300 volt battery. Both are in the trunk area and not easy to get to. The OEM battery lasted for 9 years. The 12 volt battery was somewhat special in that it had a vent hose attached to the top and needed to be an exact mechanical replacement so that it would fit and clamp down. NAPA had exactly what I needed in their warehouse here in Knoxville.

Hmmm....$200,000 for a motorhome and $20 for a filter...cheap!! I worked for an oil company back in the days of "full service". We bought most every filter brand on the market and cut them open...it's amazing what's inside (or the lack thereof) the cheaper filters.

LOL... Contrary to common sense, Freightliner Oasis Service is very reasonable for the annual on a diesel-pusher. (It costs more than a Ford pickup, but we only have to do it once a year). Anyway - I had "everything" serviced and checked in September, bumper to bumper. It was about $900, which I didn't think was horrible, considering two diesel techs were on the thing for the better part of 4 hours. That included engine diagnostics, air brake filters changed, fuel system filters, etc.. not just an oil change. I would have probably paid more for the same on my Ram pickup from the Ram dealer.

Anway, almost $100 of the $900 was the oil & air filters on the Onan Quiet Diesel Generator. The motorhome was a little over $650, the remainder was the Genny servicing & filters.

What location?

Truck Center Freightliner in Salina is over double for the same service on an ISl9
