Venetian Basement Door Latch

I have a 2018 Venetian A40 which has clam shell type basement doors. Not a good design if they would come unlatched. While driving home we hit a large dip in the interstate then I noticed the passenger side doors had flown open. (And yes the locks were still in the locked position.) Now the gas cylinder is broken ( it opened 180 degrees) and the sheet metal is torn around the hinges.
Does anyone know of a better fix for this latch setup? I have a call in for Thor but this forum has great experience. Thanks in advance.
